We will be leaving for Costa Rica in two weeks with the idea of seeing if we will move there. If we do decide to move my complete shop will be up for sale and we will let the members here have first crack at the shop tools before listing on Craigslist.

We also just inventoried my personal stash of blanks, well over 200 blanks including Ebonite,Gator,Bakelite,burls,exotics, also slabs of Mazzucchelli Cebloplast, these ail be listed here at a bargain price for the complete lot in the next few days.

I hope it works out for you Roy. Will you be selling your street machines? Sorry, I'm in no position to buy your shop. :redface:
 
Chuck, the 36 Chevy street rod will be for sale and the 65 Chevelle has been sold. The '36 is in the paint shop and is just about ready to come home.

How sad! You did so much work on both of them. Maybe I'll hit the lottery, and take that off your hands. Give it a good home. :wink::biggrin: I love that color.

Costa Rica has some world class kayaking. Some of my friends I paddle with go every year and never stop talking about it. Maybe when I finally make my way down there, we can run a river or two together. On the way back, I'm stopping for a ride in that '36 from Chuck 'cuz I know he is going to win the lottery and then adopt me!

We wish you well Roy. There is no way Marla is going to let me buy all the blanks no matter how good the price. :frown: A few perhaps but no more. Whomever gets it is going to be very happy. You might want to think about bringing a lathe. There are some beautiful woods to play with if you like to make the odd bowl.

Somewhere in the Central Valley, within an hours drive to the Pacific, Grecia Sarchi, Naranjo. Want to be where it's warm during the day and cool at night and be able to drive to the beach, We're not looking to live in any of the coastal vacation areas but will drive to them at least once every couple of weeks. How do you like it so far.
 
Not my first visit but it is nice enough. Too many bugs for my liking on the ocean but I can tolerate them for 10 days at a time... Back off the vacation areas and the cost of living is very attractive with a sweet people and fairly good standard of living.
 
I have been looking at Belize as a possible retirement location. If you have an income of $2000 USD a month you can live very well there.

Also, you would be near all that exotic wood.
 
Roy, (and Dee, of course),
We have never met face-to-face, but many times here at IAP. So, as a friend, I wish you well as you two continue to chase the dream. It seems that there will always be unexpected "things" pop up to surprise you when making big life changes such as this. So I guess I am suggesting that you keep the eyes wide open as you dream, evaluate, assess, and decide what are the the next moves. This is more like chess than checkers! Hoping for only the best, which for the most part relies on you. Costa Rica: get ready!! Here come Roy and Dee. :smile:

I've been to Belize 4 times and think it's a great country. The one thing that would keep me from making it a place to retire to is that there are no major hospitals there. If you get seriously injured or have a major medical emergency of some kind you have to be flown out to Mexico, the US or possibly another Central American country for treatment. Costa Rica has good medical care in country there. If it weren't for that I'd Belize it too!

Same with us and at our age thats one of the most importaint things we consider in moving. If Belize would ever get a major hospital it would be ideal as another plus is it's an english speaking country. Costa Rica's health care system is among the best in the world with now 3 major government hospitals and a couple of very good private hospitals. Now to brush up on my spanish.
 
From retired military people that I've golfed with, if you see anything you might think would be a good buy, then go find an attorney you can live with. Of course, this was 10-15 years ago, but at that time you had to use an attorney approved by the government. According to them, retired paratroopers, great American population and great Costa Rican people.

That is the one thing that keep my wife and I from moving out of California. We have a good health plan and at our age that is very important. Wishing you well where ever you land.
