These were waste pieces from when I made a bunch of band saw boxes . I saved usable pieces that could be glued together to be turned into toothpick holders.
Gave the new lathe a bit of a workout today and was very pleased on how smooth and quiet and powerful it was for its size.
Middle six are for toothpicks. Don't really know what the bigger ones on the ends are . . lol . . . Just something fun to turn .

Looks like a great way to use those left over scraps for a great gift for someone or maybe a 'sale attracker' at a craft fair! I, like many others I'm sure, save small left over scraps and continuously wonder how we can use them rather than throw the expensive and often exotic woods into the fireplace. Your idea is great and I hope many others agree, a perfect way to use this wood rather than just burning it or contributing to the land fills! Thanks for sharing and coming up with another great idea! Safe turning to you always!

I only price those little turnings at five to seven bucks each because they are so easy to make from scraps and I generally give one away to someone that buys a bowl or other type of larger item .
They are also good for craft sales where most of them want a door prize donation so they get one of those .
 
Bill, the toothpick holders look great, it's a great use of scraps. What brand and size of lathe did you buy, was there a problem with the Rikon you bought a couple of years ago?

Apart from the Rikon being noisy as if it had bad bearings (but didn't) it was a good little lathe for the money. Any reports I have heard on it is that theirs is also noisy. Just the way it is built .

Recently there have been two different topics about mini and midi lathes in that size range on my Woodworking Friends Site. Two full pages of responses in one thread and four pages and ongoing in the latest one. After studying pros and cons of different makes and models the consensus was that the best value for quality and features was the Delta 46-460 .
Things that it has that my Rikon did not have is variable speed and a reverse function and double the indexing stops and double the power because it has a 1 HP motor versus the Rikon's 1/2 HP . It is built like a tank and is extremely quiet running . It is very smooth running and the vibration level is down considerably when comparing the two.
Included in the discussions were the best price available at any given time because it is a fairly expensive lathe for its size and the price can vary a lot from one supplier to another . But in this case I feel certain it is one of those cases where you do get what pay for and the extra price was well justified . A couple more of my members also bought one at the same time as me due to those discussions .
I was economising when I built that micro shop about 2.5 years ago and got the Rikon to keep cost down. Wish I had got the Delta 46-460 back then because it is a much better lathe . I just made my third and updated micro shop tour video on you tube a couple days ago and it shows the new lathe in it .

How about lidless mini salt cellars? Next group you could add a little lid.
