Monty, you totally missed the concept here in this excellent tip. :rolleyes: Once the can is mounted in the chuck, you turn on the lathe, (medium or slow speed). Then grab the lathe somewhere along the lathe bed, and commence aggressively shaking the lathe for about 60 seconds. (Longer "Shake Time" required if the prospective paint sprayer is either a wimp, or has just bought his (or her) brand new lathe, and is a little tentative about giving it a good shake. :eek:

I asked my sources how many people it takes to shake a paint can and they said 5. One to chuck it up, one to turn the lathe on, and three to shake the lathe.:eek:
 
New iPhone SE, need to try out the 4K video feature, so try at your own risk, right? Used paint can from Lowes set the lathe at about 600 rpm. The sound is the bearing moving inside the paint can.

I bought one. I will tell you want I think when I use it. I will tell you that I discard about a half-dozen cans of 50% or filled cans because I don't shake them well enough.

Figured while we are waiting for TonyL's video on his setup I would show my DIY version. I am using a Saber Saw purchase in 1978 that is hardly usable as a saw at this point but will now share duty as a paint can shaker. Also used a piece of 1.25 inch angle, a couple bolts and a piece of cutting board material to make the shaker. Was able to set it up as as in stand alone mode which allows doing other tasks while it is working. It is also the reason I had to buy a new Router Speed Control. I had one when I moved to this new house three years ago but it has not appeared here to date. I am also attaching a link to a second video that will help keep us busy while we wait for Tony.
