I purchased 3 tool pen kits a while back when the conversation came up by another member and I just got around to putting one together (pictures to follow soon). I noticed that when you have the pen chucked up for writing there no cover for the tip. The is quite long and I could just imagine clipping this pen to a pocket and having the ink leach out and stain your clothes.

Has anyone put one of these together and figured out what to do with pen when not in use? I guess you could unchuck the pen refill but that seems rather tedious to have to put the pen refill together and take it apart each time you wanted to write something.

Hmmm .... are you talking about the Sketch Pen/Pencil kit from PSI?

All I do is hit the button on the back and sink the refill into the pen body. When I want to use it again, I hit the button and extend the refill out to where I want and release to clamp it in position, same as I would do with the lead refills.

The body of the pen/pencil stores it quite safely.

I believe he is referring to this pen kit.
Removing the pen insert is the only way I know of, can be a PITA, though.

I made a bunch of these for quilters over the years. I add a seam ripper blade such as comes with the Berea seamrippers and sold individually by Beartooth Woods. Actually the pen seldom gets used and the seamripper appears to be in the Chuck most often (based on casual conversations with several who use them).

I see .... I guess the easiest way for that one would be to loosen the collet tip and reverse the pen insert, then tighten the collet again?

I can see how that would be a pain after a while, yup.
