It looks like a jewelers bending block. I could be wrong, but that is what it looks like to me. Maybe one of the watch blank makers here would know better. I seen one on a video of how to make a watch parts blank.

See those weird hammer shaped things in the top right? Those are actually part of the same tool set. They are specially shaped "chisels" that work with the forge face block that you are interested in, and each are specially made to fit the corresponding size groove in the swage block.
You can get these forge blocks with the grooves or with round dimples, and they are used for blacksmithing work as well as silversmithing and jewelry work. I'm afraid you'll have to look up a company online to order this type of specialty tool .... but I've seen a modern type of one used in a recent video concerning how to turn a coin into a double-sided ring. It was used in an appropriately sized dimple in the swage block to turn the wider outer side of the ring inwards and reduce that side's diameter to match the inner coin side of the ring.
The block was roughly cubic in shape, and sides of it were covered in various round and other profile grooves, while some sides had the round dimple marks in various sizes. By comparison, the simple block you have showing in the pic here would be a single face of the cube I am talking about ... you simply turn the cube so that the desired face is up, and use it as your anvil.

Dapping block is correct. Go to redroosteruk.com and look up dapping & doming tools. They also have watch parts, faces,and steam punk parts at really good prices. The shipping was about the same as coming from the US. Jim S

You can get dapping blocks, the one in the picture is a tubular one, at any of the Jewelry supply houses... Rio Grande in Arizona is the largest one, and is the 7-11 of the Jewelry trade.

There are all sorts of dapping blocks in the jewelry trade, but that is not the same one. And with HF's, all though they are great for throw away tools, I'd be wary of that one, the quality of steel, I find, in their tools is a bit inferior. But I am sure there will detractors.

For watch pens a dapping block that has half rounds all round and use a set of drift punches to press the shapes. So expensive over here I am tempted for watch parts should be able to make my own using hardwood and drift punches.

When I was trying to find one of those I found out that it goes by two names, a U-Channel Dapping Block or a U-Channel Swage Block.

Actually, I made a couple of wood one for the size of tube I use. I'm not ready to spend so much money by buying a new dapping block. If I a got a chance to put my hand on a used one it will be great!

I have used that HF set for several years. It is excellent and extremely durable. It is the same set sold by jewelry supply companies at highly inflated prices.
