I just wanted to share an amazing experience I had this past Wednesday. I was invited to work with children with learning difference to teach them about pen turning. By the end of the day, all the kids in the school (small school - 17 children) and some staff had brand new pens that in one way or another, participated in making their unique pen. You cannot imagine the pride that these children took in their pens. It was a long but rewarding day and I plan on going back to teach the kids blank making. If anyone is wondering can these kids really make pens, I want to point out that my sons attend this school. Ethan won the 2015 IAP Youth Contest and Ian placed 5th.

If anyone would like to do something similar, feel free to reach out and I can discuss details.

Phil

Very awesome!!! Love post like this. Used to love doing the pen turning with Craft Supplies USA when they did it at the woodworking shows. Always took the kids. Nothing better.

There is a special place in heaven, for people like you Phil.
I am surprised that Ethan wasn't also teaching. His work is wonderful.
I am very proud of the pens he sent me. Everyone here is amazed at his skill.

Thank you for sharing this with us and for your time and effort to teach these young folks that they can succeed at a project. They have gained self confidence and it will give them a desire to strive and try new things. Thanks.

Ethan and Ian were my assistants. There would have been no way I could have finished without their help.
