Looking for some RV help

Planning a trip to the Great White North (Ohio) in August. I want to rent an RV (from a private owner). The wife wants me to hold off and then we can rent one to maybe go to outer banks or something local. We usually take my Tocoma with 3 teenagers in the back. I thought this would save on having to stop for rest (and restrooms) also save on motel rental.

We traveled in our 5th wheel for a month from NY to FL and truly enjoyed the trip. The benefit of having an RV is you can stop when you want, do what you want and have a place that is yours where you want and not have to be at a motel, check in, check out.... . There were days we traveled 8 hours but there were many days we traveled only a couple because we saw something we wanted to do. As we owned ours, the cost may be a factor to rent one but the nicety of staying in your own place is very nice..

Thanks Powerstroke 7.3. I like the fact to that I know (atleast) the sheets, blankets and pillowcases are clean. You make a good point about check in/out. If I don't want to have to wake up before check out time and worry about leaving something in the room...

They are nice......you have everything there. However, you also have the clean-up.

We own one......we use it about 4-6 weeks a year.......we have to store it, care for it, mice are always a problem. And if you rememberr to, check the tires, wires, lights, and when something is wrong......you are at the mercy of the RV dealers.
THAT is really a pain when you are using the camper for work.

LIke everything..........the fun is there, you just have to help make it happen.

As one who full-timed it for 10 years in a converted 35ft Greyhound bus, be careful - it can be almost addictive as pen turning.
The first year, back in the 60s we rented a cabover. Then we rented a trailer. Then we rented a motorhome. Then we bought a motorhome. When my first wife passed away I sold everything I had and bought the bus. Had a ball until I came to Atlanta and found a woman that wanted to take care of me. Those years traveling in the bus left me with many fine memories, but it's great to have a loving wife who supports me in everything I do.

I was going to see about renting one first. Just a little C class. Maybe from a private owner instead of Cruise America.

Another thing to consider is the food savings.. My family camp instead of staying In a hotel. We stay three weeks a years on the road and numerous weekends. First night anywhere I make a big ol pot of chili with out beans then I can make spaghetti the taco...etc.....we save tons by "eating at home". Nothing better then camping but I might be a bit biased...plus the campers are like these fine folks.....alway willing to help out and you have you own community...
