I don't have any! To ME, this contest seems to be pretty simple. Mix your resins and, color pigments and, cast a blank. OR, should there be a divided contest whereas embedded objects are involved? As usual, I could use some help with making the rules for this contest. I keep thinking about that critic with the BIG photos waiting to pounce on my rules. Any thoughts from the board?

Hi Chuck - My suggestion would be to make it whatever you want it to be. As contest chair, you have the power. Use the power.

I think a contest limited to resin only blanks would be perfectly fine. If that doesn't fit with someone's favorite style of blank making, then they can volunteer to run the next contest (and write the rules).

Breaking up the casting contest into categories (color, embedded, tube-on, any other) might result in multiple contests with sparse entries. The supply of casters who are likely to enter a contest is limited. The number who will make multiple entries for multiple contests seems even more limited.

Maybe this would be a good opportunity to try a single freestyle casting contest. It would be virtually rule free and open things up to any kind of a blank that had some amount of entrant cast resin visible in the finished product.

The more you try to limit what people can do in the contest, the more rules you will need and the more you expose yourself to nitpicking. Of course the vast majority of members will not engage in nitpicking and you can always just ignore those who try to go down that path.

Just some thoughts.

RUle 1 YOu must have made the blank your using on the pen your entering!

Rule # We dont need no stinkin Rules!

There are just a few of my favorites Chuck

or heres another you could use

Any Exothermic poly resin may be used, any non exothermic resins will be disqualified. Catalyst may not excede 15 % by volume and all winning blanks will be destroyed and disqualified if found to have used steroids as a colorant. All coloring additives will be food safe FDA approved for lips eyes and nails.

I knew I could count on you for help. Will the FDA delay the contest?:rolleyes:

In all seriousness I would allow any cast blank. Subject to the general rules of not shown before and having to make it yourself. TUbe in, tube out, inbedded, inlayed, one color,6 colors. multiple casts. Decide on the picture structure if you want to and or how many
and let it run.
