I know to many of you out there that the site of an American Bald Eagle in your yard is an everyday happening, but here in Wisconsin, away from the lakes and bays, it's just not something one sees that often here. I have seen this large bird flying around for some time, but have never seen it land anyplace that I could get a halfway good photo of it. Thursday my wife saw it land in one of the large trees on the edge of the property, a distance of about 700 feet from the rear deck. I only have a Fuji JZ100 with an 8X Zoom and 14 mega pixels so this is the closest shot I could take. When I would tell people that I had an eagle in the back yard, they would say "sure it's not a big hawk" ?? I do have three large Red Tailed Hawks in the woods, but they pale in size to this Eagle. Now I have proof that my old eyes are not that bad after all. What's in your back yard ?? Jim S

Living on a small lake, I get lots of different wildlife, especially birds herons, hawks, osprey (once), buzzards, ducks, geese etc, but never a bald eagle. We do have a large barred owl that lives about 100 yards from the house, but I only catch glimpses of it every once in a while in the evenings.

Nice photo!

Had a Bald Eagle recently land in the top of a big tree within site of our deck...captured this with my best zoom lens (300mm) plus a fair amount of cropping. This was about 25 miles outside of Yosemite National Park.

Snapper

I spotted this snapping turtle walking across my yard and I shot a few portraits. I needed something in the picture to give it a sense of scale, so I dropped a quarter on the ground.

Afterwards, I decided I wanted my quarter back, but he wasn't moving, and I wasn't about to reach in front of his face for it.

I hope you enjoyed that,
Eric

Eric; Is that a mosquito on his upper lip, or a very small hummingbird ?? Jim S

Good eye! It was even there long enough for two photos...I'd have been afraid to reach for the quarter without killing the mosquito
