FREAKING OW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever they gave me for pain killers gave me a nasty headache today.

Pain is gone thank god. I've had them before but this was by far the worst.

Been there a couple of times....I was told that the only comparable pain is childbirth...asked my Mom (who has experienced both)...her response "with childbirth, at least you get breaks between the pain"

I am a relatively young guy and had my first 5 years ago.... would not wish that pain on anyone. they gave me hydromorphine for the pain which worked well, to well in my opinion. I can easily see why people get addicted to that stuff but the hangover from it was almost as bad as the stone itself.

I think God invented kidney stones for men instead of childbirth!!
I've had to endure it twice......the stones, not childbirth:rolleyes:
Once I simply had to pull over on a motorway in the middle of nowhere and suffer the agony till it passed. Took about an hour. Aaargh!!!
Second time was mid summer in the Channel Isles, the client picked me up off the substation floor, where I was writhing around almost in tears and bundled me into his car and took me to hospital. I got a morphine shot that would have normally been given to a horse and was rearing to go and back at work within an hour.

I don't know how. By the time they were done doping me up I pretty much just drooled on myself for the rest of the day. Now I feel like I got kicked in the head by a horse.

Glad to know I am in good company. Unfortunately, I'm an expert in kidney stones. I've had enough I have considered casting them and making a pen!

Yeah, no fun! I had a Ureteroscopy procedure one time. That's a wake up the first time you urinate after that! After I stopped sweating, the nurse came in, "Oh hon, didn't anyone tell you to hit the morphine button when you first start feeling the urge?" "Nope, someone forgot that information!" My last X-ray result was described as multiple bilateral kidney stones. Sure hope they stay put!!!!!!!!!!!

I been there once myself....

I thought a screw came lose in my back and was impaling me...

No kidding I had back surgery 3 years prior (triple fusion) and that pain was worse then anything I experienced...

Took 3 days to pass I feel for hang in there....

.

I feel for you. I had my first one when I was 9. Passed many more since. Had kidney failure at 26 and a transplant at 32. That was 5 years ago. The best pain medicine I had was dilated. That stuff made you forget what planet you were on!

The real "fun" is when you get one blasted and it is coming out in fragments. Not big enough to hurt, just big enough to give repeated UTI's as they make their way out.

I had between 3 & 5 stones, between 1/2 the size of a grain of rice to over 1/4" in size, every year from my first one in 1985 to my last one in 2005. I've passed them, had surgery to remove them and had them blasted. It's no fun and I feel for you. I did allot of reading about their causes and what worked to stop producing them for some people. Changing my diet did not work for me. One of the things that I read was taking high doses of magnesium and since I started that in 2005 I have not had another stone. When I discussed this with my Doctor, my Neurologist and Nephrologist they both told me that they had never heard of that but if it worked for me, keep doing it. I kept upping my dosage until I got a loose bowel and then reduced it a little for where I'm taking about 900 mg. a day. The only side effect of taking too much magnesium is a loose bowel. I've passed this information on to others who are now stone free after using magnesium. Hoping this helps everyone who has suffered from these stones.

Good description Bruce. I woke up feeling like someone jabbed a pike (the spear, not the fish) in my back and was trying to lift me off the bed. I'm intolerant to hydrocodone, so all I got was Tylenol.

Your stone passed in three days? You lucky &@$!@^# - mine took over two weeks. I was off the antibiotics by then, so I had three beers and woosh! Out it came. Looked like a cross between a grain of rice and a bunch of razor-sharp ceramic fishhook barbs.

My urologist said that citrate inhibits formation of kidney stones and recommended drinking lots of water with some lemon juice (which is high in citrate) in it.

Regards,
Eric

my stone

stone I just passed 2 days ago. it's only part of it, there were three other pieces. This is the biggest . Dr said my kidneys are full, just had surgery last year to remove what they called a stag horn. Took them 2 days of going in through my back to get all the stones out. Now they tell me I'm full of stones again. I understand your pain.
