I had a little scare this passed month.
I have been having a lot of pressure in my chest and have had a hard time breathing.
I was worried as the men in my family don't normally make it past 62 and I am getting close, so I called the doc thinking it was my heart.
After the exam he said he thought my heart was fine, but that my lungs were not expanding fully. He ordered tests. While waiting for the results (4 long days) I researched my symptoms and discovered it could be anything from COPD to cancer.
Well the results finally came in and my lungs are clear. (Praise God).
Now the doc says you need to lose some weight. (Duh)
I have been dieting and working out sense 1/1/2014, but when it became hard to breath I stopped the workouts.
He gave me some BP meds and said that should help with the pressure and I should get back to working out. He assured me that the breathing will get better.

I am thankful nothing is seriously wrong, but I still think that "Lose some weight" is doctor speak for "We don't know whats wrong."

Oh well, the new shop is progressing slowly, hope to be back to turning early next week.

It's never fun to have health issues. After my last visit to the doctor, after his diagnosis, he told me to lose weight as well. That is after I had already lost 25 pounds. His diagnosis kicked me in the rear and I have since lost another 15 (since January 16). I share this to be an encouragement to you. You can do it, but it sure is hard. And I wish I could have a root beer float...

Forget the Root and the Float and have a Beer. Just saying.

Here is some advice:

Don't set a goal to "loose 50 pounds" set a goal to lose 5 pounds. When you reach it feel good and set a new goal to lose 5 pounds.

Weigh yourself naked every morning after you've taken care of morning business but before you have eaten anything. That is the lightest you'll be all day and the closest to your actual weight.

When you weigh yourself above - WRITE YOUR WEIGHT DOWN

Don't diet - unless your doctor tells you specifically to do so - just eat the same things you have been eating and cut back on the portions. Make one of your favorite calorie loaded foods a "treat" food to reward yourself now and then.

Pass on desserts and look at sugar content....most excess pounds in the USA come from too much sugar.

Exercise before every meal including breakfast -- I try to do something for exercise that lasts about 20 minutes. It does not have to be hard exercise.

I followed the above and in 18 months went from 260 to 160 without feeling deprived or hungry. I've kept it off now going on 16 months and it keeps getting easier. But you do have to be careful of "sliding" back.

Bob Glad to hear it nothing major. If I may suggest something, check out weight watchers it really does work and will help you loose the weight you want, Evelyn does weights watchers and has lost the weight she wants to loose. If you want send me a PM I can have Evelyn give you some more info. We need you healthy and working in your shop.

I only eat handfuls of food.Im down a few pound's from 245 lbs to 220 lbs in 4 month's.
And i don't drink any more coke's or tater chips.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
I have been cutting sugars and carbs and working out this year.
I have dropped about 20 lbs, started at 340, down to 320 next stop 300, party at 280.
Ice cream at 260, new tux at 240.
I didn't gain it over night, I dont care if it takes a couple of years to lose it.

So glad it wasn't your heart. I was having trouble breathing while sleeping. After a negative test for sleep apnea*, I started to exercise and eat less. I lost 40 pounds and the snoring and breathing trouble went away.

$4,000 for a sleep test?!! The bill gave me a heart stress test!

..make your goal ONE ( 1 ) pound a week, seems easy right? Well, after a year you'll be 52 POUNDS lighter and that will be GREAT! Good luck, you CAN DO IT!
