Jeff,
Mike Kogan is sending photos of the blanks (may not be the exact blanks) to my email address.

I sent a PM to Don Vann asking for a photo of the Custom Blank as well. I'll let you know when I have them.

Scott Greaves is donating two fountain pens from his collection. They're on the DD list, but he told me that someone told him they were going to be auctioned. He's put a value of about $200 on each pen. I wonder if an auction would be the better approach. That way someone who really wants a vintage fountain pen can bid. I can envision a DD winner having no clue or appreciation for that as a prize.

Thoughts??

Can anyone use some cedar blanks as a prize? Scott (SDB777) from Slabs, Blanks, and Boards sent these with the two batches of PR blanks that I posted in the DD thread. These blanks don't quite reach up to the $25 minimum I'm trying to maintain.

These are all Eastern Red Cedar, 20 crosscut and 20 straight cut. Plus two larger banks, one cedar and one red oak.

we can made them a random drawinging in a contest. The youth division perhaps.

The DD prize list is not just for the Donation drawing. I just stuck that designation on all prizes that were going to you to use. There is nothing that says you cant auction off one piece or the whole lot. They are for you to use as you see fit. You can auction my donations as well.

OK, we'll see what Ed says about the pens.

Your items I'd rather leave in the drawing. Since most of our members are pen makers and your components are for making pens, there should be broad interest. The commercial pens from Scott probably appeal to a very narrow audience.

Looks like I better try to summarize what I think I am doing!!

The pens from Scott and the pen from Buzzz were discussed and I was under the impression we were auctioning all of them--- (3 in total)
I have the blank from CaptG (1)
I THINK Jeff and I have determined we are auctioning the mugs, one at a time (16).
I am planning to use Historical Wood blanks to start us off, later today.
I know JohnU will help me with a couple blanks if I need them, but at this point, I think we will have a pretty good auction schedule.

IF anyone has additional items or comments---I am VERY flexible!!

I can certainly fit more in, running a couple simultaneously---have done it before and it goes well. At the moment we are a little "mug heavy", but I think I can add coffee or other relatively low value, but "theme" products to a couple to keep people coming back.

Let me know!!
Ed

I offered to donate an IAP clock for to be auctioned. I don't see it on your list, Ed. If it is not fitting for an auction or you don't have time to do it, please let me know as soon as you can so I can scrap my plans to make it. I ran a test engrave of the logo today and plan to start gluing up the mesquite for the real thing tonight. This is a rendering of what it will look like more or less.

I am also planning on donating a couple of special blanks that I am making for the auctions. They are currently not on Ed's list either.

Personally, I think its better for me not being on the list. Just in off chance I dont get the blanks completed in time. Easier to add an auction, than to delete one.

Forgot to mention, the Alumilite came yesterday.

They sent 9 sets, 8 were promised. I understand one is a gift for me. I am not a caster, so if it's needed for a prize, use it!

Sorry, this is the way Mike sent them to me. Hope this works for your purposes Jeff. There are two cards. He says, winners can choose from any 3/4 x 5" blanks from either card.

That won't look very good, but ok. He's losing a nice advertising opportunity to provide a nice photo.

How many blanks is the prize for?
He and, his partner are in the process of moving from N.J. to Fl. I suspect this is the best he can do for photos right now. His donation is for 10, 3/4 x 5" M3 blanks. The winners can select the ones they want from their selection on metalpenblanks.com

I'm having a brain cramp. Who is the user associated with "TFW Web Services" He gave a year of web hosting and I want to contact him for a logo I can post in the DD.

Not terribly fond of those "service" prizes. People want to win hard goods.

It looks like we have extra prizes since the Almost daily Puzzle didnt not go. And some back up prizes as well. Any thoughts on usage? we could add to the losers club drawing. We could also do random drawings of the contest entries. THere were several contests with large participation. Random drawings of those might help build participation next year.

I looks like 10 reserved prizes although they would need to be combined into 5 prizes and 3 from the Puzzle games One of them is a large $ prize of blanks from Buzzz4

How about one very simple guessing game rather than a drawing. Guess a number between 1 and 1000. First one to guess it wins. If no one guesses it within 24 hours the person who guessed closest wins. If several people tie for the closest guess the first one submitted wins.

enter them in what?

It would work like the Wood Idetification Contest. The members would post their guess. I suppose we would have to limit the number of guesses per member.

It is just a thought, something that could include everyone.

Why not just have everyone post to a thread that they are in and then use the RNG to determine the winner by their post number. Multiple posts/entries could be removed (?) by a mod before the drawing.

How about a loser's club raffle for each of the prizes - tickets one dollar each, name in a hat, chosen by random number generator

Not selling tickets, but rather getting one dollar donations, with a gift of a raffle ticket! :)

Might be a few extra dollars to help that last funding push...

I have 6 prizes slated for a losers club drawing already. We can add to that list, or think of some other way to use them. The puzzle prizes could be put with the donation drawing or ? We could add 4 of the lesser prizes to the losers drawing making it 10 prizes one for each year.

OK now, Some of those extra prizes have been eaten up already. Jonathon will need some more and we might have a puzzle. Lets just hold off for now. We can always have a drawing for what is left over at the end.
