On our travels, we've sometimes run across safes in the hotel rooms - most are free, but some charge.

Has anyone ever found a lock like this? We hate paying $5 per day to rent the lock, if it's at all possible to buy one in advance - and while I'm not going anywhere, my parents were thinking of taking a trip south, and I'd like to buy one for them, if they happen to go.

It slides into a square hole in the safe, and then you take the key with you. The resorts charge, and sometimes do not even have them available.

Chances are the lock is a proprietary item created by the safe company to market to hotels as a *revenue enhancer*.

Many hotels use the combo lock safes.

These are sold in bulk to resorts/hotels from specific suppliers. These folks do not sell to the general public or require a minimum purchase that amkes the general public not interested.

On the other hand you might look at auction sites.

I was hoping to spend less than that on it - much less! :) And I don't want them to have to carry a safe with them - just a lock! :)

I'll check ebay, but I guess I'm likely out of luck - thanks for the help!

Andrew,
That isn't a safe. Just a lock that is placed on the safe.
