They are saying we are going to get 12" of snow and the temperatures are going to drop down near fifty below with wind chill by tomorrow night.
It's supposed to continue snowing most of the week and the numbing cold until Tuesday at least.

We are set to crush all records if this happens according to the news.
It's already freezing cold.... inside.

Has anyone made a pen from icicles?:biggrin:

We already have over a foot of snow from Wednesday and Thursday.:frown:

I will try to get a picture, if I don't freeze first.

Right this moment.

Temp is -1....windchill feels like -22
The low tonight is suppose to get to -25....who knows what the windchill will be in the morning.

They are talking here that we will not get above zero for the next 90 hours.
Making soup and staying inside.

Wow! It's even supposed to get down to 45 degrees here on Monday night. Luckily it's supposed to go back up to 82 during the day.
Sorry, couldn't help it. That's why after growing up in the midwest I don't want to leave the warm weather down here.

We shoveled a couple of hours ago, it was about seven to eight inches. Now there is another three to four inches on the ground and still snowing steadily. The cold air hasn't arrived yet, but the temperature is starting to drop. Schools have already posted they will be closed through Tuesday and many businesses are closed tomorrow. A lot of stores are closed, which doesn't make much difference. The shelves were cleared yesterday.

On a positive note... we are having BBQ country ribs for dinner. They are simmering away in the crock pot.

It's getting cold here in Sioux Falls SD.
Public schools are closed Monday.

the front is just getting to us, outside of New Orleans,la. today was 63 in the morning it should be around 22. stacked up the firewood for our usual 2-3 day cold blast. I love this area.

We've gotten almost two feet of snow and it's still snowing. The temperature is dropping and the wind is getting worse.
They have shut down all road travel. If you get caught driving, they will fine you up to five-hundred dollars.
We don't plan on going anywhere. LOML's work called and said no work tomorrow.

And the BBQ was delicious!

Edit: We have just been upgraded to a Blizzard Warning until 7am. :frown:

They cancelled school here just a little while ago.Barely a flake of snow left on the ground.Their excuse is that it's going to be too cold.5 degrees avg temp with a wind chill of -15 to -30.Big deal, I've walked to work (car wash) in worse than that.My wife thinks that the school doesn't want to expose our kids to that kind of cold.I think the administration just don't want to expose themselves to it.

They've done studies - a school bus, if the engine quits, will equalize to the outdoor temperature in seventeen minutes or less - and students don't often dress nearly well enough for -50.

In rural areas, buses can be at the side of the road for up to an hour, if they have to send a replacement bus to pick everyone up (the longest trip up here is almost 2 hours on a school bus - we're a large division).

If students are sitting in -50 for an hour, you're going to have big issues....hence, when it gets too cold, they cancel buses....that being said, I don't recall the last time it was cancelled for cold - they cancel when it's icy, but not when it's cold.

I think the threshold is -50 here, but that's just ridiculous - in -49, busses run! :P

-45 at the moment, and -48 scheduled for tomorrow morning, and no bus cancellation yet.

For the first time ever in my recollection we have a blizzard warning issued. They've closed schools and there are a whole lot of other closures but right now it isn't doing anything. We are supposed to end up with windchills in the -37 C range and we've got the Great Lakes all around us to help moderate temperatures.

Over the past couple days we received over 12" of snow and the temp this morning is
-17°F With a wind chill of -45°

Took one breath outside sinus froze and made me cough. I haven't felt cold like this in this area for twenty years. It's cold. Damn cold.

Last night the temp got down to -24 and the windchill was -54.

There isn't any reason to be out in this. I know growing up, we dealt with temps like this on the farm. Really, being safe and warm compared to taking a chance ...... that is a "no brainer". Put the soup on the stove an another log on the fire.

It is times like this that makes me realize my basement shop is not so bad after all. It pretty much stays a constant temperature all year long, with the heating/AC vent closed.

But come summertime I do wish I had an outdoor shop with plenty of windows and skylights to bring in lots of natural light. I have a large escape window in the shop so that helps a little.

Holy schmoly!

Never in a million years did I think that I would be the one living in the warmer part of the country up here. It will hit about 32 degrees today and most if not all of the snow from the past few days will be gone once the sun clears the mountain and hits it....here's a pic from the deck this morning.

Everyone bundle up and stay safe please.

I knew we were just lucky yesterday. I can't even take a photo like I did yesterday since all our windows are clogged up with snow. All the roads in the area are closed as are all the schools and many businesses. We've had a bunch of snow but it is mostly the wind that is wreaking havoc. Visibility on the highways is almost zero. The one county next to us pulled all their plows off the roads at 8:30 last night. The windchills are in the -30's to -40.

Hope everyone everywhere stays safe.

Michael

I happen to be on a business trip all week so I can't really say what the temperatures are back home, but I'm guessing mid 20s in the morning on a cold day up to mid 40s in the afternoon, similar to mid Texas. Right now in Long Beach, California it was about 80 with sunshine and a mild breeze. It sure is a shame that all this beautiful weather is wasted on California;)

It is supposed to get real cold here in Central Texas too. Of course, for us, real cold is a low of 20° with a high of 40°.
