HF 2hp Dust Collector

Just bought the HF dust collector and plan on installing it in my shop. I have a small 16x20 shop that I've piped with 4 inch drain waste and vent PVC. I've got eight total openings that I plan on controlling with blast gates. I was wondering if any of you have this collector and if you did what do you think about the suction of the collector. I plan on setting it up with a chip separator and blowing the dust outside, any thoughts?

If I remember right...the filter on the HF kinda sux...but the rest of the unit is just fine!
I know several people with it, it works well. Better filters can be found easily.

I have mine piped to both my lathes, then it goes thru the wall to a separator then thru the fan/motor, then to the atmosphere. It works well and the suction is great.

We have two of those with canister filters. They are awesome.

The filter bag leaves a Lot to be desired and a PITA to clean.

I also use one and my shop is 24x24. Mine first goes into a 55gal cardboard drum separator I made. I also installed a Thien baffle and a 40" tall 1 micron filter I got from PSI. When I bought mine I got it for $150 with a coupon. Heck the filter was twice that but well worth the investment.

I bought one about four years ago. I used it for awhile and, it did a good job. Didn't use it much before moving to Florida, at which time I put it back in the box, where it remains today. I suppose I should sell the thing. It did have good vacuum power just, quite loud. I discovered early on that, I liked to hear the sound of the lathe better. Strange huh?

I had one. My only complaint was the high in rush current on start up would sometimes trip a 15a breaker. If I ran it on a 20a circuit it had no problems.

Suction was great.. I was cleaning off the Radial arm saw one day with the 4" hose and sucked up a soda can by mistake.

Your setup sounds just like my initial one in every way. Including venting outside. However, when I added onto the shop I moved the dc back inside, the dc turned the air over so fast all my nice air conditioned and heated air went outside. I knew this would happen when I installed it that way I just didn't appreciate how fast it would happen. So if you plan on a climate controlled shop you might consider that if you haven't.

So, 3 years of considerable use and no problems with the dc.

Sidenote on the blast gates: I initially installed less expensive plastic ones they leaked like crazy, starting modding them got annoyed and just upgraded to the metal ones, they worked better for me.

I have the 1 1/2 hp unit but I purchased a 1 micron filter from rocker and like it much better. I run a 5" main line through my shop aprox 1000 sq ft and have 5- 4" drops going to various machines. The drops connect to 2 stage vortex equipped garbage cans and they do a great job of keeping the impellor from getting clogged. It is kind of loud so I built some walls around it to knock down the noise.

I have one and built Thien baffle and put a Wynn cartridge filter instead of the bag. It been working fine for me.

Ok , I've been working on the thien separator for the trash can chip collector and hope to get it finished today , then I still have to get or make blast gates for my drops but I'm making progress. I have seen nothing but good reviews of the motor and impeller of this dust collector so I'm hopeful it's going to be a big improvement to my dust problem! I'm not to concerned about emptying my air outside since I don't cool the space and I have just elect rice space heater to warm my shop but we will see how it goes.

I had one but my only complaint was that it was so noisy. I eventually replaced it with a Jet that was much quieter, since it sits right beside my lather.

ok well I got a good start on the install and finisihed the thein seperator and chip collector and it works great! I also got my lathe conected to one port and im really happy with the suction and the way it catches chips. I have the dust collector set up in a three foot closet that I built for my air compressor and the dust collector cause I hate the sound of my air compressor and i tried it just today with the door shut and I could hear the radio over the collector so I think its going to work great! still have to make some blast gates and get my other equipment hooked up but im making progress.
