I thought I'd try out one of the openers I made for gifts on a bottle of my favorite IPA; Torpedo Extra IPA from Sierra Nevada. Anyone else favor really hoppy IPA? I might have to open two to fill that mug.

Torpedo is a fantastic beer, but then Sierra's Pale Ale has been my default for years, and I have loved their "wet hop" series... If I'm ready to drop a little more $$$ I'll go for Bear's Racer 5 or Lagunitas' Hop Stoopid... And if you want to see how the east coast does hops, Harpoon came out with a Leviathan IPA that is very good. There are a lot of beers out there that have gone overboard on the hops, but these I think hit the upper end of high hops while still balanced...

I'm not sure if they will do it again, but if you ever see Sam Adam's Lattitude 48 "Deconstructed" box, it is a fantastic "Hop Tour". 2 bottles of Lattitued 48, a beer they make with 5 different hops grown at the 48th lattitude, and 2 bottles each of the same basic brew but made with only one of the hops, so you can sample what each hop tastes like individually and see how they combine... of course you can't do that all in one night if you want to remember it...:rolleyes:

Both the opener and the mug look fantastic!!!

I should revise my earlier post, because I should put Heavy Seas Loose Cannon at the top of my list. I don't get it very often, so it slipped my mind.

Hop Stoopid is outstanding as well. I have never had it on tap, but I bet it would edge out most everything else.
 
Torpedo is awesome, but then there isn't much Sierra Nevada does wrong in my opinion. I'm a big fan of all of their beers. As far as I know, Torpedo was the first showcase beer for Citra hops, which is a new variety first used a few years ago. I think it was a hybrid of Goldings and maybe Cascades or something. I forget, but they are tasty:smile:

My current favorite is Green Flash Imperial IPA. It's quite hoppy, but as is the current trend, the hops are back loaded to give flavor without an unnecessarily huge bitterness.

I brew my own version I call Damn Aliens - Abduction Ale. A UFO is beaming a hillbilly's beer out of his cooler on the label:biggrin:. Hoppy IPAs are best when relatively young, because hops flavors subside over time, so I have an IPA and stogie night in my back yard when I brew it, which didn't happen in 2013:mad:.

Cool, I have a couple new beers to look up. Hope they are available somewhere. Pretty sure I've seen Heavy Seas locally, but I don't think I've seen Green Flash around here...

Maybe we should start a BITH (Beers in the Hat) exchange!!!

Tonight I worked on getting the shopping cart and catalog set up, tomorrow I will tweak and test that. Friday I'll be hauling all 22 cartons to the basement for sorting and packaging and mailing to YOU.

This morning I had coffee in one of the 22 ounce beer steins. Now THAT is a cup of coffee.

When you post the details on the mugs can you include the height of each (in addition to ounces) so we can make a better decision?
