I'm ready to purchase. There are few choices. One offers a battery cradle. Is that necessary. Amazon sell Trends for $373. Sound right?

I have a Trend and like it. My only complaint is my neck gets very tired after an hour or two. The battery in the top of the helmet makes it a little top heavy.
I also had a Triton but did not like being tethered to the battery/fan hanging on my belt. I suppose they all have their pros and cons. It is nice to come in from the shop able to breath, especially after sanding a large piece.

There is a non-pro model that is a about $50 cheaper. I don't know what is exactly the difference, they look a little different. May work the same though. I have the pro model, and like it but I don't use it as much as I should. Like Don stated, after a while my neck gets sore, however if I used it more, that would probably go away. I don't know about the price. I've had mine for several years and it looks like they have really gone up in price. I paid around $289 when I bought it.

I recently upgraded from a Trend Airshield to an Airshield Pro. Took me a day or so to get used to the change, but I'm way happier with the Pro. Much better construction. I can turn for 12 to 14 hours straight and it doesn't bother me.
I bought an extra battery pack and the cradle made sense for me because it allows me to charge one battery while using the unit with the other battery. The cradle is hugely overpriced for what it is. But, so is the battery pack. The original airshield was easy to rig your own charging cradle and battery packs. They've made it harder on the Pro.
If you will only be turning a couple hours a day and you are good about remembering to recharge at the end of the day you can get by without an extra battery or the cradle. The first time you forget and run out of juice while turning will have you wishing you had the spare battery and cradle.
$373 seems like a good price to me. I paid $440 at Packard for a package that included the extra battery and cradle. With the free shipping at Amazon, the same package might be a few bucks cheaper. You should also check prices at P&R distributing and Envirosafety to see if they are having sales.
I also bought the ear defenders. The way they attach is really a lousy design, but they work and I'm often glad I have them.

There is a huge difference between the Pro and the original. The quality of construction and the overall performance of the Pro is way ahead of the original. I loved the original for the 6+ years I used it, but after using the Pro I would never go back. The only regret I have is that it was really easy to DIY the battery packs on the original. Not so much on the Pro.

The shield almost kisses my nose and length of the shield stops around my mouth. Normal or not?
