Help Identifying this wood

I got this burl slab today. I think it is redwood, but I'm not sure. What do you think?

Come on gimpy don't be rediculous. A couple 'core samples should be enough to identify it.

A core sample is 7/8" square by 5 1/2" long to get an accurate study.

Not much information to go on. If the bark was loose and peeling, maybe it's Madrone.

For $10 dollars I thought I'd take a chance. its roughly 21" x 22 in" and 2 inches thick. not counting the little attached part.

It has some gum streaks in it. I'm thinking cherry or red gum from Australia.

not really, but I wouldn't say its light either. it looks like it was a table top at some point in its life. (holes in the back that look like legs were attached). I see a fair amount of Redwood on craigslist around here.

Looks like cherry burl to me although I'm as far from expert as you can be

Looks like Redwood Burl. One sure way to tell for sure is to saw a small piece. Redwood has a very distinctive smell that even intensifies as it burls.
