Hello, Im new to pen turning, about 8 months now. My question is, although this is a hobby for me ( for the most part ) Im noticing on Etsy and Ebay, some pens Ive made and sold for $45 are going for $110 to $175. Example is a bullet bolt action using alligator jawbone. I sell these $75 and others are asking like $125 and up. I know this may be a goofy question but where does one find the norm in selling kit pens?

ask 5 people, and you'll get 5 different answers.

Sometimes 6, as I often change my mind! ;-)

An average is just that. A kit is a kit but material, finish, marketing etc will vary.

Can you take top quality photos or go to high end craft shows? Then you are possibly out of the higher priced market already. Maybe not.

Do you like making the pens and getting them to people that appreciate them? You might set a moderate price? If you want to maximize profit and are willing to make (possibly) less pens and wait longer to sell them, price higher.

So many different factors and decisions.

yes i have fun with it and take pride in someone saying wow thats a nice pen. Christmas is coming up so I am sure we are all gonna be busy turning regardless if its money makers or gifts.

This or something similar is a frequent question for which there is either no answer or their are hundreds of answers. Much will depend on the venue in which you are selling...another point is "asking" and 'selling" price are not the same - for instance I had two pens offered for sale in my store for an asking price of $1000 each...obviously (to me it's obvious) I didn't want to sell those pens, I just wanted to display them.
