I found this little guy in my yard on Friday. What is it? never seen one like it before in Connecticut. It's about the size of an overstuffed softball and it did fly when a neighborhood cat came for it. Anybody have an idea?

Yes, a Female B.W. You are fairly lucky to see one today. I used to raise them in Ohio and would release several dozen each spring, into the fields.

the back to back blizzards of '77/'78 just about decimated totally the Quail population there. I have no idea what their numbers are today.

Sorry for going on. Russ

That's what it is!

Thanks for the replies. It is a female Bobwhite Quail. I live just on the outskirts of the city however there is a pretty large wooded area at the end of the street. I suppose she wandered out of the woods and made it to my house.
