Normally I'd say about 3-4 days, but with Fred's military backround I'm going to say he holds out longer....10 days.

you know, when i got out, that was all i talked about was growing a beard and growing my hair out really long. I let it get about an inch long and it started driving me crazy so i cut it short, and its been like that ever since. All those years of keeping it short became more of a habit and really felt so much better to me than having all of that hair, and it made me feel hot all the time. So off it went!

I started the beard the same day I said goodbye at the office... it's been almost 8 years now and I've only taken it off once.... I screwed up my trim one day and had to take it back to just a goatee, but immediately let it start growing again... I do keep it trimmed relatively close.... and I wore my hair long enough to part and comb, but last year decided it was too much trouble keeping the wood chips out of it or it was down in my face, so I went to a burr - about 1/2" or so long - probably will wear that way until..... Both of my boys sport a military style hair cut... the youngest is very blond and with his cut so short, he looks bald... he actually has a full head of hair.... the older one is thinning on top, but he was military for over 8 years and never changed styles.

I got home and out of the Corps in 1970, and it was 1983 when I got my first hair cut.

That was for a job interview that I did not get. I made a good friend out of the interviewer and still see him from time to time.

Every time I see him I tell him he owes me 14 inches of hair. I sure could use it now.

His response is that he should have given me the Job.

Yea thats what most balding men say...Hey if it makes you feel better to deny your old thats ok....:smile-big:

Many of us always looked at growing a beard after getting out of the service as a right of passage. I told my wife that it was knid of a rule/regulation that once you retire from the military that you have to grow a beard. Her response was, "Why?". Of course my response was, "Because I can!."

Same thing applies to getting another job after leaving the military. I really wanted to get a job at a local Burger King, work there for 1 week, and then go in tell the boss off and quit. Why? Because I can!

While I was in, I never shaved when I was on leave. I stopped shaving when I went on terminal leave. The morning of my ceremony, was the first time in 30 years that my mom saw me clean shaven. Haven't shaved since that day. I keep the beard trimmed on the neck ( kind of), and shortened a little. I keep teasing SWMBO that I am not getting a hair cut and will have a pony tail and beads in my beard. Got a dirty look and now there are scissors all over the house, where as a couple weeks ago I couldn't find one to safe my life. I am scared to go to sleep now!

Looking forward to attending the ceremony next week. Hell, I may even shave and get a haircut, so I can go in uniform.

I just gandered at my calendar and on the 28th PTownSubbie retires....... So what's the over under on how long it take for him to grow a beard?

So what is the over/under number?..... I will take the under regardless of what it is!

Sorry Derek! If I don't have to shave, I would rather not.....

The hair will stay short. I like the short hair as it doesn't get too messed up with wearing my CPAP mask. Long hair is unmanageable with that machine and mask..... Beside, I like the look of short hair (I never thought I would ever say that.....)

Hello, hasn't anyone ever seen Fred during vacation? MAPG? If he doesn't have to shave, he won't...

Ding Ding....We have a winner!!

I don't plan to grow a full blown beard but will definitely not be clean shaven...

Time is growing short!! I can't believe the way the last 3 months has flown by!!

Too much work to get done. Must go do something......

The mustache and beard are on again off again. My last haircut however was September 29, 1994. I retired on the 30th an have only had the ends trimmed once since then.
