Hello Roy

I was looking through Ken Kallenshaan site because I wanted to get some wedding pens engraved and come to find out he is phasing out that service. That is truely going to be missed because he was so good.

While I was there I was looking through some of his photos of past work he has on his site and this pen showed up in one of his galleries and had your name attached to it.

Is this your pen??? This pen jumped out at me for its beautiful craftsmanship and thought. If this is your pen could you give us a little background on it and if you have some additional photos would be great. Was this a commissioned pen for someone?? Fantastic work.

Thanks

John, thank you for the compliment, a few years ago I made a limited edition of these called "The Trail of Tears" Ken did the engraving and I did the filling in of the crushed turquoise. They were limited to 10 each fountain pen and 10 each rollerball in the Emperor and Jr. Statesman. All were done on Axis Antler. I have had many request to buy these but as I told each purchasher that his was # ? of 10 I refused to make any more and Ken also has refused to engrave them without my permission. The turquiose tear dropping down the his face is to signify the complete change of life style of the American Indian and the Buffalo of his hunting grounds being destroyed by the White man.
These may not be the best pens I ever made but they will allways be my favorite, and no I did not keep one and have always wished I did.

Once again John thank you. Yes I put about 10 coats of medium CA. With the rules it's hard for a Vendor to post on SOYP and not get accused of advertising even if it's a product he hasn't run an ad on in a while, so to stay on the side of trying to live within the rules I refrain from showing there. Don't get me wrong as I totally think that the rules of posting in the SOYP any Item you sell as a Vendor and have run an ad on in the 2 weeks before and even two weeks after is a good rule but I've received emails some time ago from certain members complaing that even though I had not advertised a certain product here it was still an ad to show it in the SOYP forum as long as I sell it therfore I no longer feel comfortable showing in th SOYP forum.

Fantastic Roy. That pen just stood out in the gallery he has. Did you have to top coat with CA after it was engraved and you did the inlay??? I sure wish I could have seen that one in person. Nice work. I sure wish you would show more of your work here.

Thanks for adding the story and symbolism behind the pen. It is indeed a masterful piece. Keep your ethics, even when it hurts.

That said, I wish I had one also. Truly wonderful work here.

Thanks Roy. It is a special pen for sure. I bet it went for some nice change also.

Now can you get Ken to rethink his decision on not doing engraving any more.
