The zip code thing is a great idea to help grow and be able to link up with other turners in the area. But would it be a good idea if people do not get put on the map until they have 100 posts or so? The 14k that are registered on the site have under 10 posts in the last 2 years (or longer)?

The second thing is if someone is inactive for 6 months on the site can their thing be blocked on the map?

I think this would help the active members link up with other active members.

I get this but removing some one from the map places them further from belonging when we really want to encourage continued support. My thinking is perhaps different color pins that determine cuerrent activity (or lack of), say green is active in the last 30 days, yellow active in the last year, red is inactive for a year or more.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I like that Glenn, I am sure there are a few that come on check a lot of things, read a lot, but don't posts. And that does not mean they would not be a good part to meetings. I like your idea of different colored pins. Then again too if they have not been on in the last 3 months (from now) they had not entered their zip anyways.

Hey guys!!

My only experience is with the Milwaukee "chapter". You would recognize the screen names of about half the people who come to the meetings.

Some people just don't "post"! Yet, in person they contribute a lot!!

Can't tell a book by it's "posting history".

My thoughts are that a lot of Members read the forums to gain knowledge, maybe they are frightened to put up a post, they might think as "dumb" frightened they might be ridiculed?????
I know I was frightened when I first replied to a posting, for this reason, as I was not at all knowledgeable on turning.
Is there a system on here, that can tell who is reading a forum or thread.

Well there is the last time logged in. Someone pointed that out, it's a good idea.

If you use colors to designate when someone posted, will the software automatically update the status when someone makes a new post? Say someone hasn't posted in a year and posts today, does their color change?

I'm one who reads every day but only posts once in awhile.

After input from others, my opinion has changed I think it would be better to sync it up with the last time they logged in. But they just started the zip so someone that last logged in 2 months ago will not be on the map.

Only problem with that is for a rare few. When I was deployed I could visit but not log on. Of course that also means my location isn't correct but I wouldn't want to be excluded just because I couldn't sign on. But being able to select between active and other might work.
