My wife and I converted from a Gateway (Windows XP) to an Apple last year. Through my school system I was able to obtain Microsoft Office for Mac for only $10 and install it on the Mac. That office suite does NOT include Access (database)
Does anyone know of any good DB for Mac programs out there. Thanks for the help.

The one that I know of best is Bento (made by filemaker) if you want a low-cost option, or filemaker pro if you need something more powerful.

Try open office it is free and is better than ANY paid software I have used.

Hmm... I may have to take a look at it again. Last time I looked at Base (the open office DB app, it still was pretty useless to anyone who needs a real front end.

Mysql was the same issue (great for someone like me, but rough if you need wizards, forms, etc for the average user).

Filemaker 12 Pro is the way to go, but it is expensive. If you are a registered student or a teacher though, you should be able to get a copy of it fairly cheap. I think I bought mine through University of Phoenix for around $125.00 if I remember correctly.

If you don't need a lot of power, then go with Bento, but it is really limited.

I was a hardcore MySQL and Access user when still in the PC world, but when it was obvious the choices for similar database power for Apple/Mac was a bit limited,

I got a version of Filemaker 12 Pro while still in school, and would rather use it then either Access or MySQL.

I've tried many of the other "Apple/Mac" dbase choices and either they were seriously very complicated, or just didn't have the power to do the things I needed in my programming.

Thanks, Rick, and everyone else. My needs are not that sophisticated. Heck, neither am I. I'll go with one of the open source ones.
