well so it's that time of the year again when the Diamondback snakes come out of hibernation. I'm looking forward to going to the Rattlesnake Roundup this weekend with Don Ward.

Butcher room here we come! I hope they have some smaller ones also. Seamus tells me he will be trying the chicken fried rattlesnake this year. Me, I'll stick with corny dogs.:biggrin: Get ready for the pictures.
Do a good turn daily!

Yep,I think I might actually try some this year. It's gonna look like an episode of honey boo-boo up there. At least it did last year anyway! LOL

In my search for rattlesnake skins online, I've seen pictures of various rattlesnake round ups and they look like a lot of fun. Terrifying, terrifying fun.

That would be an experience. Have fun!

tbroye, PETA is there every year.

Scott, text or call if you go!

While I agree with a lot of what PETA says I think, like any extreme group, right or left, they lack the common sense to see the importance of culling and population control. The round up is not a live pigeon shoot or seal harvest. It has a purpose.

And I am not saying this because pigeons and baby seals are cuter than snakes. Although you would catch me within 100 miles of that snake place. What happens if there is a stampeded?

I grew up in the same town (Wichita Falls, TX) Spent 20 years there and attended many of the Red River Rattlesnake Round Ups....I am still trying to wipe out the pictures in my mind of a bunch of rednecks playing with snakes. Seamus and Virgil....be safe!

Are you kidding..I hate snakes, dont want a snake pen much less have to deal with them (was bit by a copperhead at age 7)...we are just worried about more, this was in the flower bed next to our front steps...plus there wasnt much left after the shotgun blast

He did it! Seamus tried some chicken fried snake. And, yes, I had a corny dog but Seamus would not take my picture. He didn't think a corny dog was bandwith worthy!:biggrin:

We had a good time and came home with 100 ft of snake skins....about 35 skins. We are set until next year!
Do a good turn daily!

I cant wait to go pick up those timber rattlers tomorrow! I had a great time hanging out with Don and visiting with the staff that have gone out of their way to get us the desired snakes we asked for! All of the proceeds go towards the Waurika Fire Department.

Barely any meat on them thar snakes, but it sure was tasty! Sorta like chicken!:rolleyes:

I hear that also. The claim is because of the tremendous feral hog population. Feral hogs are reported to eat rattlesnakes. Seems the snakes have adapted but I'm not sure how true the "silent" strikers reports are.

We have a snake here that actually eats rattlesnakes. The snake is the blue indigo and it is stealing pen blank material from Seamus and me.:biggrin:

I hear they have evolved to bite first and shake after...true?
