So I received a new toy or tool from my wife on my birthday. A Dremel 200 with an accessory kit. Since I am a beginner hobbiest in the turning world I wanted to ask does anyone know what I can apply this tool to do when it comes to pen making or turning small projects in general?

If you have one what do you use it for in this hobby?

Thanks,
Randall

I use it to make the realistic ash on the cigar pens I have WRITTEN A TUTORIAL OF HOW TO MAKE IN DETAIL THAT HAS NOT BEEN PLACED ON THE IAP SITE SO OTHERS CAN SEE HOW I DO IT but when it is posted you will be able to see how useful a Dremel can be in one application. I've had one for many years and have used it for everything from carving to repair of my dental partial plate when modification is simple and a lot cheaper than a trip to what's his name

I use it to even out the inside of a wine cork to fit onto a brass tube. Toe nails. Antler carving.

heh, heh, heh, neat little gadget.

I have found a lot of uses for my dremel. You have to be careful with dust and shavings though. It builds up in the motor. I blow mine clean before putting it away.

Works great on the front teeth if you smile wide enough:biggrin:

Seriously I have a plastic disk I use to finish the end of my blanks. Tear off a square of 600 grit from the roll, push through the screw and the plastic gives it a firm backing.

I use it with dental bits to clean out and enlarge natural voids in wood to be infilled with turquoise

Nice reminder to stay on your good side!!!

Back on topic....
I use it sanding, grinding, polishing most anything. Depending on the need.

I used one for years to do that - also to take down the inevitable high spots when I got a new plate.

Been waiting on the Tutorial, is it completed ? Sure would like to have a copy ..

One thing to be aware of. When using a dremel with the cotton disks to polish take care. The dremel runs at such high speed you can burn thru a part if you're not careful.

I use mine for all kinds of jobs around the house and my shop. For grinding things into shapes, to do cut outs on bowls and other turned pieces, polishing rough edges on tubing, grinding designs in pen blanks so they can be filled with stone, acrylics, or metal shavings. Dremels are great tools, dental grinders are also great. I get dental bits from my dentist and from Paul Fennel or Binh Pho"s websites.
Congratulations on getting such a nice present.

Two words: PEN WIZARD!!!!!
It's expensive and you probably won't jump right in right after getting a Dremel. But at least now it's a future option (a fun one too!)
