Barnes and Noble sells pens

I was buying a few books today and noticed some pens that look familiar. Two of them look like kits that I use.
Pens, Ballpoint, Rollerball - Barnes & Noble

It's no big trick to buy finished pens from China and I would think not too difficult from Taiwan.

I can get a cheeseburger at McDonald's for cheaper than a homemade one too - but I like mine better!

Can't compare Kobe beef to lunch meat - they're cheapo pens sold in a bookstore!

So Can Staples --- If you were buying a nice pen to give as a gift - would you go to Barnes and Nobel?

By what I read they have similar build structure using brass innards with plated trim.The design of a few looks as though the trim is machined just a little different so not to be identical.For all we know the same manufacturer could be making those as well as the parts I buy.

You are right,but can't they turn wood or other materials just as easy.

You are right,but can't they turn wood or other materials just as easy.

Actually at least one of the manufacturers of kits does in fact sell finished pens.

I buy kits from them and they also sell kits retail to anyone who wants to buy them for not much more than they sell them to me.

Actually David, they do sell wood pens....the finish isn't very good, but they are wood and they are cheap if you buy a lot of them.

But, if they don't know any better they'd not be looking for custom pens to start with. You have a lot of competition out there and if you're going to be in the pen making business you might as well get used to it. No matter what you sell and what venue you sell in, you are going to find other turners and or manufacturers selling competitive products.

I don't turn for profit anyway so it's not competition.

Makes me feel like I'm overpaying for parts when the manufacturer can sell the whole pen for a few pennies difference.Just a bummer,it's not gonna make me quit turning.
