Wood IDing when shopping

Well I am not even a basic wood iding expert past the S-P-F, oak, walnut, mahogany and a few of the more common and distinctive woods.
Somebody pointed out that with the high mega pixel camera/lens on the I 5 that when I'm buying wood for turning at say WC, etc. I should place a stick or two near label on the rack or photo the name on the price code label(mine always seem to fall off in the bag on the way home).
That way I will have an easy time Sorting thru the wood when I get it in to the shop.

One of the local wood stores here writes the name of the wood directly on
the pen blank, it looks like they use a sharpie pen. If you were concerned
about the ink penetrating into the wood you could maybe use a pencil.

A correcting pen the white kind for the old typewriter and pens works well. Plus it doesn't penetrate into the wood. I believe that is a tip in Rich Klienhenz's book. Works great on light and dark wood, when I remember to take it. But I always have the phone.

.... or write on the corner of the wood, the corners get turned off. Never had an issue this way, even using marker.
I like the picture idea too, great for people like me with very short memories. Thanks!
