My wife and I finally entered the modern age and purchased our first smartphones today. We don't own any Apple products, so we passed on the iphone and got the Samsung Galaxy S3.

We wanted to research protective case, so I was wondering what you guys & gals use toprotect your phone, and what do you like about it. Thanks.

I have the Note II (bigger "phablet" version of the G3), and use samsung's flip cover (there's one for the S3 too). It let's you talk through the cover and not hit the touchscreen. But then I didn't want anything that would add too much more size to an already very large phone.
 
I had an otterbox and I broke 3 belt clips. Moved up to the Neptune Trident with the stand in the back. 6 months, no issues on my Galaxy G3.
 
Galaxy Note I

I have the Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-i717, otherwise known as the Note 1. I wanted a holster type case, so I purchased the Seidio Innocell case. Rubber armor, with a spider style hard protector to hold it in place, with a belt holster. It is quite expensive at around $50 bucks, and it has a built in easel stand for watching videos.

Do a google search, you will find a variety of prices on the case for a S3.

For those who like the Otterbox...

I'm kind of liking the Defender model. I'm assuming the touch screen features work with the clear screen protector in place since it would be a PITA to use otherwise. Have you had any problems using the touch screen with the screen protector in place? Thanks.
 
I use the otter box for the S3 but I tore the screen protector out first. Samsung s3 has the best screen on the market why cover it --- no scratches and light on the smudges. I carried the s1 without a screen protector for over 2 years still looks new.

Had my GSIII for about 6 months with just the flip cover. I wish the cover was a little better made (The rubbery edges come off after a while), but otherwise I think it's great. Doesn't interfere with any functions and just protects the screen from pocket dialing.

If you buy from the store expect to pay about $50. On ebay they are about $10.
 
Phone update....

We've had our phones for about 2 weeks now so I thought I'd provide an update. I forgot to mention that we got our phones at Staples, for $50 each with 2-year contract...great deal for the S3.

It's a fantastic phone that does more than I could ever hope. Between the apps that came already installed, and some free downloaded apps, I have everything I need (calendar, task list, finance, email, music player, Facebook, Netflix, GPS, calculator, woodworking utilities, Square, etc...).

We purchased the Otterbox Defender protective case for $23.05; the Exogear Exomount windshied mount for using the GPS function $24.99; Motorola car charger $6.34. All from Amazon.com with free shipping.

Otterbox fits perfectly and looks like it will provide some great protection. This belt clip looks very sturdy, and holds the phone very securely. The screen protector does indeed take a little away from the wonderful S3 screen quality meone suggested...I may remove it since the screen is recessed into the protective case by about 3/16".

BTW: Someone mentioned that there might be a problem with the Square card reader not fitting with the Otterbox case on. I had no trouble at all for the record.

I'll be trying out the car mount and charger today. However, they both look like quality products also.

The only con so far is that the setup for getting the calendar tasklist to sync with my online Google calendar/tasklist is counterintuitive. But after figuring it out, I was able to set up my wife's phone easily.

If anyone decides to buy this phone you wont be disappointed. Feel free to contact me if you have problems syncing with your Google calendar. You can also contact me if you want more feedback on the accessories I purchased.

Glad your liking the phone it's been my favorite.
1. App I would suggest is juice defender. It doubled my battery life.
