Hi,
Well, first step was reaching in and moving a almost dead set of ears out of the way to reach these.. second step was spending 10 minutes trying to get all the MINI pricks out of my hand, then I peeled off the outer layer off the dead paddle to reveal these :)

Oops.. forgot the step of almost screaming like a little girl when a spider fell out of the first paddle I pullled apart.... but I never told you that ;)

PS.. I HATE spiders.

THose prickly pear spines are so small and go though every pair of gloves I've ever tried. Then they are impossible to see and even after you think they are all out there are lingerers.

Trick I always found to work with them is give them a quick toasting on the grill. It usually burns the needles off.

I use rubber cement smear it on the area and let it set up and peel off. The cactus spines will stick to the glue and be pulled off. I heard duct tape works also but have not tried that.

I've also heard that using hair removing wax works too, but I've never had it on hand to try. I'll try the duct tape next time I weed out the prickly pear section of the rock garden.

Are you able to do it without breaking it? I thought you stabilize first then cast it . What do you use to glue it to the tube?

I am selling the materials for casting, not sure the method the buyers would use.

When I used to cast different things, I would cast the blanks then turn them. But the glued tube would work too maybe if someone had the molds? Not sure though as I never cast them that way myself.
