I think I need an intervention... I can't stop ordering blanks and blocks of wood!

And I've barely been able to stop myself from buying a vacuum chamber, pump, and some Cactus Juice...

I've barely been able to keep myself away from casting supplies...

I'm just inflicted!

And then when I make a pen nice enough to sell, I just wanted to keep it.

Not nice enough to sell, I give it away.

I'm probably in a lot of like company around here

your in the wrong place for help...I think most around here would encourage this type activity LOL

there's always so much to do in different directions, the fun never stops

If I didn't know any different, I would swear I started this thread! You just described me! I have about 160 different species of blanks and machinery that's way overkill, or I only use a few times but hey...you only live once.

The only difference is that I love to sell them, and actually sell quite a lot.

Get over it...you're doomed just like the rest of us! LOLOLOLO

Stay away from the woodcraft on Atlantic blvd and give all paper money, credit cards, and debt cards to the wife. Yea, that aint gonna work, so good luck. Good thing is your in good company on this site.

Dave

I read your post twice, and for the life of me, I fail to see that there is any problem. Do you have a metal lathe. How about one of those precision little table saws. If anyone tells you you have a problem, just lock yourself in your shop (for your own protection). Be sure to bring in the laptop so you can get back on IAP. All will be fine! Trust me.

Oh damn! Are you my long lost twin?!!! I suffer from all the same symptoms. But I do have a vacuum pump and 3 vacuum chambers as well as a 7 or 8 gallon pressure pot. And I still order blanks! What's worng with me? :befuddled: I find myself order blanks from Exotics, Wood to stabilize from ebay..... I am starting to feel like a hoarder.

Know what you mean - I have a show next weekend so my inventory is pretty high right now. I was getting ready for church Sunday morning, went to the inventory to pick one to carry to church, couldn't decide which one and the thought of not having the selection after the show was dis-heartening:confused: But then I thought - I'll just make more

Ahhhhh....I see your problem. You have been stopping yourself from buying all the necessary stuff! No wonder you feel conflicted!

Oh my! I just realized I have 421 wooden pen blanks and 17 spindle blanks in the mail headed to my house. I really better had start ordering pen kit, a vacuum chamber, a vacuum pump, and some Cactus Juice...

I am glad to help all of you with this terrible disease. Just send these highly offensive and addictive articles to me and you will instantly be cured.

I feel so much better now, I probably only have 50 blanks and 25 kits in stock not made and 54 items made for sale, but only 2 carry pens. Guess I must be in the early stages of the addiction!

And I thought I was the only one that wanted to keep most of what i made and give away pens when i received compliments on them.

Even though I am only able to stand for a few minutes at a time, I keep on ordering supplies and accessories for my lathes in the knowledge i will be back to turning within the next 4 -6 months.

No, the wife doesn't care. She just bought an embroidery machine. There went a duplicating lathe for the foreseeable future.

 Don't worry too much, It only gets worse!
but hey! My wife bought me a nice little DC for Santa to bring, & she never queries what I buy. Actually walks around tool stores with me asking "would this be any use?", "can you use on of these?" etc, etc. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones

Next thing your going to tell us is that she never has headaches !!! Jim S

Honestly I haven't commented on the wife thing because she just encourages it. When I make a comment like "Maybe I should quit spending money on all of this wood and stuff.", she tells me "Shut up, you enjoy doing it, so it's worth it." Best woman ever!

To monark88: I got into turning because I have problems with my back and legs, my lathe is on a low top workbench and I sit in a chair when I turn.

My wife's main question is: "Does it pose a danger to her or our son".

No sweetie cyanide is perfectly safe, along with the fuming sulphuric acid and chromic acid.. just dont put it in your tea or you may feel slightly under the weather

Jokes aside i keep it locked away anyway.

The last time that question was invoked, i had asked "Do you mind if i build a reactor?"

Naturally she had envisions of me wanting to build a nuclear reactor, so i needed to explain it is infact a dry etching reactor which is pumped through with a cocktail of toxic gases. Perfectly safe, so long as it doesn't leak

How do you do the turning. I,m all over the lathe, elbow resting on the headstock, leaning on the table. Always moving. I have not tried sitting down, as yet.

I just had some more of the stock moved to new home yesterday and today, and will try it in the next few days.

I'm not chained to one way of doing something, but I am kinda slow in trying it. I do have a bar stool that I could use.
