My wife is at work and both of the kids are out for the evening. I was looking forward to a pen making bonanza! The cold drove me back in the house...

What the heck?!!!

I gave away both of my ceramic heaters when I moved here from North Carolina. Figured I wouldn't need them... DOH!

At least I got one pen done. My first snake skin blank, actually my first cast blank at all. Only ruined one (DOH! again). Pictures in SOYP.

OK, I just wanted to rant about the cold...

I understand very well. I lived in New Mexico for a while and thought being only 3 miles from the Rio Grand it couldn't get cold there. Man, did I get a wake up call?

I guess once you get acclimated to the region - temperature swings hit you harder than you were expecting.

That's for sure. The winter here didn't bother me at all last year. Just like when I came home from Iraq and thought I was going to freeze to death when I walked out of the airport.

Thats because your in North Florida where its much colder than down here in SW Florida.
We have been having Highs in the 80s and the lows are 61, Its a freezing 64 right now but by Sunday night it will get down to OMG 57 degrees. Fortunately My shop is well insulated so a good hot cup of coffee in the morning takes the chill off.

I just stepped outside and it's still not cool enough for a jacket here in Miami. In fact I still had to put my AC on in the garage today.

I love and look forward to the cool weather we have in Florida.

I own a 2 bed. house just above Tampa. I HATE the summer anyone in the mountains of North Carolina want to trade.

My dream is to summer in the mountains of N.C. and winter here in Florida.

Edit: I am from N.J. been in Fl. almost 20 years now.

I live in northern Indiana and officially closed my pen making down for the winter. My garage is not insulated or heated and it's just to cold out there for wood turning to be enjoyable.

Here in Florida it's just the opposite for me. I shut down in the summer it's too hot. For me summer is like the dead of winter too HOT to go outside.

Charlotte, NC area: Summers too hot (110 F in garage), winters moderately cold (40 F avg in garage). Going to buy a heater and insulate the doors. Too many pens and other things to turn to not do it in winter. Brrrr.

Sounds rough. Hope it warms up for you. Want to come do some tree removal? It will help to warm you up.
Would love to help out Neil, but I'm good doing 12 oz. curls occasionally.

Seriously, hope you're doing ok. I think I'd just be in your way.

We have it made, winter in Texas where it mild, and summer in the mountains of New Mexico at 7200 feet where it cool.

The coldest I have been in my life was Orlando Florida. One February I worked a teachers convention there for a major computer company. Advice I received was I wouldn't need a coat as Florida doesn't get cold. It was 28 when I arrived and it stayed below freezing all week. Never will do that again.
