Wow I finally was allowed to go back into my shop, I nearly screwed up my new mid 6 figure hip, but all I did was wrench my back, I can stand for an hour or so at any of the machines, (even the finger removing machine), Turned some trustone, now tomorrow I'll drill it after Animefan changes from the 4 jaw which I really shouldn't lift just yet, to the 3 jaw on the metal lathe, and get a special thingy sent off to someone and finish my PITH pen. I felt so good to turn again, especially after last Thursdays calamity, Wife and Son In Law refused to let me near nay thing until I got cleared by my surgeon. No damage to the hip, just a massive pain in the keester and a stiff back, nothing that a Chiropractor and Steroid injection couldn't fix.
I've been glued to the tube most of the day or had it turned up so I could hear it in the shop.
My prayers and sympathy go out to all people in the areas being devastated by this massive storm.
Last Thursday it was 82 degrees and beautiful, Friday morning it was 33 degrees, this is the cold front that is driving this " perfect Storm" I don't think any thing that disrupts the lives of so many millions of people is in any way perfect.
Please all take care and please be safe...

Take your recovery slowly Ken. LOL, even your post sounds like you are under meds!!

Take a look in the mirror and draw an imaginary line down the middle of your body. Don't mess with any item that this line crosses!!! You only have one of these items and they can't be fixed......

Head, brain, tongue, neck, heart, spine, that dangly thingy  and last but certainly not least, the good old poop tube!!!

Take care!!

Glad to hear you're back in the shop Ken. I'm sure "Go Slow" was in the Dr.s instructions. That cold blast got here too. Got all the way down to 65

Skippy, three appendages near each other, and the doctor made the one on my right side longer, I tell you there is no justice in this world !!

After I was given the all clear last Thursday 2 hours later, I tripped over a 135 pound German Shepherd, fell through an unlatched french door and got the scare of my life, I had just been allowed to turn a few tool handles, but the dog will not get over a foot or two away and he doesn't have any safety glasses, so I was letting him in the house, but after fluffing off the wood chips from his coat, he thought it was going to be play time and he dashed in to get his ball, knocked me down, (my fault, I didn't tell him to sit/stay and he just kind of knocked me down,.
Andrew "animefan" was nearly in tears he was blaming him self for suggesting I bring Pride, (my tiny purse puppy) for a foot locker  and all I could think of was I'm not going through another surgery.
I drove today for the first time in nearly 5 weeks,to the DR. for an Xray and he was amazed when I showed him my very bruised bum. and not thrilled I drove a week early. I do have just a slightly longer right leg, maybe 1/4 inch, it takes a bit of getting used to walking with out limping, but I'm learning how to control my gait which will be compensated for with a heel pad in my left shoe.
But I can walk nearly 3/8 mile with out stopping or using a cane, although I do carry it with me just in case.
I was actually very good about the 4 week of Physical Therapy, and the Dr. and the senior PT were both impressed at my recovery.
Plus I'm nearly completely off of the Opiates down to two 5 MG tabs a day from 3 or 4 10 MG. OxyCodone, the knee hurts a bit but that's from 2-1/2 years of limping and using a walker the past year, funny thing is now my right hip and leg are stronger than my left, it starts aching first. So I guess I'll do some of the same exercises on it. It's good to be back at my computer in my office in my shop. and not doped up or crippled any more, Now if I can just figure a way to get my right sock on easier, I think Mike "woodlover" has a similar problem, but I'll figure it out.
Peace Y'all

Ken, I use to work for Zimmer (US) here in NZ so I understand a little of what your body is having to deal with. It is good to hear you are recovering well.
I've got to ask about that "tube" that you've been glued to, was it brass? :-)

I am glad you are doing so well. I hope to find out next week when the Doc can replace my hip. Take care!
Tom

Tom, the worst part is the muscle pain, and that will go away, I'm 69 and the worst part for me was wondering if I'd wake up. but these Surgeons are amazing, I only have an incision about 5- or 6 inches long on my bum, the worst part was the ride home from the hospital, I went in 7:30 Wednesday and was on my way home by 11:00 Sunday, Just follow the PT folks, I was blessed with a good team.
Oh and try not to fall down on it, It will hurt but listen to the rules about bending, crossing your legs and DO NOT TRY AND PIVOT on the new leg, Sleeping was a big problem for me, I couldn't sleep on my back, They frown on sleeping on your side or stomach (that actually hurt me. after a few minutes. It's amazing how much differences in life quality after the surgery.
Good Luck.

No unfortunately it was a large Television, which I didn't appreciate when my son gave it to us for Christmas last year, but now I've grown to like it a lot more, today I'm gluing the brass tubes, it feel so good to have Epoxy on my fingers again... man I am getting weird

EZ does it, big fellow. Glad you've got your "fire" back, but go easy!
EZ is now my new middle name, not just stupid any more. Thanks Andy.

They make a special tool for putting on your socks, etc. Doesn't cost much. Most medical supply places carry them.

Good because I've been using my grabber thing and it just stretches one way, Nice to know there is such a thing Thanks Cindy!!

Ken
Walgreens has sock aids priced from 9.99 to 29.99

Have to go right past one on the way to walmart, ( a most unpleasant experience) so I'll pop into Walgreen's and check it out, Thanks Tom. You don't know if the make a shoe string tier do they LOL

Steve, I have two pair of those Diabetic Frankenstein shoes, but my New Balance are so much more comfortable, and have much better traction on slick shop floors and wet stuff.

I agree with you on New Balance. I've been fighting a wicked case of plantar fasciitis for years. I went down the exercise/stretching/orthotics road for too long before I learned that if I simply wear New Balance shoes then I'll have no pain.

That being said:
