I am curious if anyone knows of a plastic or plastic like rod that can withstand baking at 350F for a few minutes. In the past I was using aluminum and brass, but wanted to see if any of the other pen turning materials (i.e. ebonite, PR, etc.) might be able to withstand a quick trip in the oven. I was on McMaster Carr and a few other sites, but I am not familar enough with the materials to know what might stand up to threading and taping.

I am a polymer clay person. The clay needs to cure in an oven at 350F. 10 minutes per quarter inch thickness. I would like to turn some forms that are not metal that are then wrapped with polymer and cured.

UHMW PE will not withstand 350, but I have used polymer clay to fill carved sections in PR as well as wood many times very successfully. Alumilite should work also and very easy to test.
