it pours!

It seems like everything I own tends to break at the same time.

Was able to fix my sander with help from the forum - so that's a victory!

- Now my desktop's video card is close to dying - randomly shuts off, more frequently of late...
- three year old washing machine blew a pump - 200 dollars later...
- the car's giving me a check engine light indicating that the EVAP canister volume control solenoid is dead - wheaver the heck that is...
- truck's brakes are kaput...

And now the dryer's control board is kaput...three years old, but only one year warranty. The thing worked fine, but it was getting harder and harder to press in the switch on the control board in the right way to make it start. Now no pressing will get it to work. A ten cent switch on a control board necessitates a 300 part purchase (ridiculous, eh?)...

Actually, it'll be a grand - I don't think my wife will wait for me to get one shipped up here before we do laundry again! She's already given me a few days!

Why does everything happen all at the same time?

If we could find a way to ensure that every executive in the company that made your dryer experienced your problem at say twice the frequency that the rest of us do , I suspect there would be fewer of those crappy designs . I would suggest that you take $25 and buy a working dryer of about the same vintage that you are . It will have parts that you can replace , if you can find them .

Hi Andrew!

If you don't need anything fancy, I can send you a video card from a computer I parted out a few months ago.

Scott.

Nissan?

The good news is that this part is unbelievably simple to change out and you should see an improvement in your gas mileage. The bad news is that the dealership will screw you for the part. I think it's around $150.

You might consider hitting a junk yard for it. Also, check the associated fuse first.

Just this weekend a friend had his 3 year old Maytag bite the dust. Sears wanted $300 for a replacement board. He searched around and found a company that sells rebuilt boards for a lot less. They apparently do a lot of appliance circuit boards. Might be worth a look.

You might also check the gas cap. My wife's van had the light comeone complaining about an evaporation system leak or something. Turns out the gas cap wasn't tightened all the way and after tightening and driving a few trips, the light was gone...

It is a Nissan - good guess! Must be a common thing!

Thanks for the offer, Scott, but it's likely going to cost a fortune to ship a video card up here...I'm sure I can find one that will work (nothing fancy) at best buy or something like that, if I can get it shipped here...

Wouldn't you know it...came home today, and the phone's not working! Plugged a working phone into the Network Device outside, and no dial tone..neighbor's phone works, and I paid the bill three weeks early this month (and every month, really)...

I feel like it's just one blow after another! I must be due for some REALLY good Karma!

If there is no dial tone at the outside point, its up to the phone company in the US, should be no charge to you (unless CN phones are different than US?!)

My goodness - was in the truck looking for a flashlight so I could check the phone line at the pole and near the tree line, and I noticed the passenger door wasn't opening again - wouldn't you know, I somehow managed to break the linkage for the truck's interior door handle...it's getting ridiculous...

I need a vacation!

Yep, you're right, Dean - same deal here, I think...the only issue is that I work on-call...so let's hope it's a quick fix on their part. Odd that it seemed to happen right at closing time for the utility...worked at 4, didn't work at 5.... maybe someone cut a wire by accident at closing time?

I second the gas cap idea. When I was a mechanic (for 15 yrs) not too long ago, this was a common problem and did throw a check engine light. replace the gas cap and drive for a few days. Light should go off... Its a cheaper test than taking it to a dealer to find out its just a gas cap issue. If it doesnt fix it, then you know its deeper in the system causing it. But I bet the gas cap fixes it! ;-)

Try this sit Appliance Parts at RepairClinic. 125 Brands. 365 Day Returns. It is a great site and they also sell parts. I was able to fix my dryer with their help and when Sears didn't have the part in store I got it from them and within 24 hours.

Thanks Cindy - out of stock, though. I'm about ready to buy a new one....

My wife picked one out - 1200 plus 13 percent tax, but it's on sale for 750....seems like a good machine...except for hte one year warranty!

Gas cap on order (Napa in this town is the size of a shed, so everything's on order!), but I'll try it once it gets in. Only a 20 dollar attempt, so worth a pull at the handle.

Just replaced the hot water tank in the spring - hopefully good for a while. I do have a team coming in to move the gas pipe, however, so hopefully they don't do something stupid like red-flag my furnace, or break something else!

One problem solved today - the phone.

Waited all day, and called tech support five times...

Finally was transferred to the customer service manager, who said we requested a vacation disconnect (which we didn't)...they finally figured out that someone gave the wrong account number, and they just disconnected it without verifying (rather concerning, eh?)

So it's working now - but I've missed a ton of calls for work because of it (yesterday was the call day)...

At least it's fixed!

Good thing I didn't order the dryer yet...I hear there's better deals on the pair...and the pump just failed on my washer again while my wife was washing some socks (we've been out since the dryer died)!

Maybe it's because I studied Greek Tragedy in university!

Thanks all for letting me ramble on. I"ll stop with the updates (unless there's a pool going about what's going to happen next!)

Maybe this is all happening because some greater power wants this ramble to be more interesting.
Reminds me of the old Jewish curse, "May you have an interesting life!"
At least you know these problems will be taken care of right once you're done with them.
