Hopping a plane

I am juming on a plane to AL from Denver this morning and I have some pens with me. Some are Bolt Action Pens. Any suggestions for dealing with the TSA. I might not have Internet much in AL so I might not respond for about 3 weeks.

I would go early and try to talk with a TSA super. before you get into line and start a havoc. You might want to have a back-up plan so that the TSA does not take them.
 
It all depends on the TSA agent at the gate. I have flown quite often with a bullet pen in my brief case but last month I saw an agent giving a young lady a hard time about a spent pistol cartridge she had strung about her neck as a pendent. Unfortunately there is little consistency from agent to agent. The worse time is when they have a trainee on the xray scanner. The best thing to do is have them in your checked baggage at the top of the bag and labeled as pens in case they go through your checked bags. Even better is to mail them to someone where you will be staying so they don't fly with you. I have not carried the bullet pen for quite some time as it ended up as a gift on one of my trips but had a TSA agent go through my bag recently looking for something only to find out it was a Baron FP that had looked suspicious to him.
 
I have not had any issues with my bullet\cartridge pens on flights. I have flown with as many as 200 pens before with now issues. I usually inform the scanner people that there are several pens in the bag being xrayed, and the look on their face is almost comical when the screen shows up with all the pens. They will then take out the "wand" with the special cloth to give them a once over and they usually have now issues.

I have even given out a few business cards to the TSA agents at the security check points, and made a few sales later on phone calls from them. I would guesstimate about 10-12 pens sold that way.

I find it rather "comical" that this topic with "gun styled bullet" pens comes up so often. Given that it seems so easy to acquire "real" guns in so many states, why is there so much scrutiny with these pens at American airports? Do you see the irony here?:confused:
 
This might be the last time I will be on for a while but I am leaving DIA gate 15 in less than 1 hour. I called the TSA guy over and he had no problem with the bolt action pens.

This topic does seem make the rounds her quite often. One thing I don't understand is "Why not just put the pens in one's checked baggage?" I fly often with pens and turning tools and have never had a problem with these items when checked. Even when flying with just pens I put the cases in my suitcase between the clothes and they have arrived just fine....inspected often but arrived in the same shape as when packed.
