Woodcraft has discontinued the Triton Rollerball Pen Kit. I thought the Triton was one of the most popular pen kits around?

You have to "keep an eye on" both Woodcraft and Rockler. Here, at least, these two brick and mortar storefronts will discontinue or "discontinue and replace" under a different name. This happens because the pen supply houses can supply the same products at substantial savings over Woodcraft or Rockler.

On more than one occasion, the two "big box" wood stores have changed the name of a component set simply in efforts to keep the retail price of the sets. After checking the Woodcraft sites (the local store had plenty of Tritons) the still have Triton ballpoints, roller/fp bushings and extra tubes. This leads me to believe (along with a rumor from a sales rep) that Woodcraft may be in the process of "rebranding" Triton.

The pen supply houses (including Berea domestic) have good supplies of Triton in all configurations. In fact, more than one distributor has added additional Triton models (TN gold fp/roller balls).

Additionally, if you look at Woodcraft's Contennial, except for its higher price, it looks suspiciously similar to Atrax. If you are worried about shrinking supplies of Triton, you may consider contacting Berea Hardwoods, Beartooth Woods, Arizona Shiloutte, Exotic Blanks or some of the other suppliers. These places seem to have more than adequate supplies of all of the Triton models.

Respectfully submitted.

They have them for 40% off if you ask the sales person.

Cool! Only $2 more than I can buy them for anywhere else:biggrin:....well, before sales tax, anyway, because Woodcraft doesn't want to "accept" my sales tax exemption form. They think all stick rounders are hobbiests:biggrin:

If my sarcasm doesn't show through, you would be correct in assuming that I am a bit "miffed" with the local Woodcraft.

Andy: I understand your discontent. Sometimes these people just seem to forget who works for whom! "Local" seems to be a trend with displeasing the customer. At least it carries as far as Indianapolis!!

I've looked everywhere on the Internet and can't find the Triton Pen Kit for less that $14.00 in lots of 10 as stated in the above post. Anyone have a source?

Triton pen kits make a good-looking pen, but I feel the quality is such that one cannot make a "high-end" pen using this kit.

FWIW: I sell Triton Chrome with upgrade gold at the same level as Jr. Statesman rhodium. They outsell the Statie nearly 2:1. Interestingly enough, I haven't had a single warranty issue with the Triton chrome. I've had my share of problems with the Jr's.

The "jury is still out" on the Triton TN gold. I price them $25 above Jr Gent II TN. Before March, 2013 hopefully, I can give you heads up comparisons. I hope to NEVER sell another TN Jr. Gent II, as this has been a 4 year old headache!

Pretty much the same story with me Andy. They ARE my high end pen even after trying all the other high dollar kit options. Never had an issue. That's kind of why I asked...
