I,m not fond of the click kits that I tried in the past.
My son's girlfriend is picky. I made her a Zen with an acrylic blank my son picked. The blank was a winner, the Zen the looser.
She wants a click pen to use at work.
Mechanically smooth, straight foward assembly would be nice for me.
It been years since buying a clicker, so recomendations are appreciated.

Try the Vertex (PSI or their vendors) or the Long Clicker (get mine from Exotics). These both work very well and have caused me no problems.

The Long Click is by far the best of the batch that I have used for any length of time (not just turned)

The vertex are not bad, but for my personal taste there isn't enough tactile feel in the click mechanism...but it's definitely smooth.

For easy assembly PSI's Compson is the easiest I've done. As far as smooth operation, it's just so-so. My wife loves the look and feel. I sold one to a girl she works with too. As far as durability, that is yet to be determined.

I've made some Sierras, and while you can make 2 per blank, I feel they are stingy looking. I wanna see more blank material.

Is the Artisan from Craft Supply the same as what Exotics doesn't have?
The Sierra that I made was like a coffee grinder.
The 'kitless clicker'? Tell me more.
 
Just got some of the new model Sierra click models. Advertised as an improved mechanism.

I had good success with both of th "classic" Sierra click pen formats (very long barrell and very short barrell). The new ones feel more solid, and come with a barrell length about 0.2 inches longer than the twist version.

If your talking about the "Long Clicker" pretty sure it's the same component.
Can't help ya with the Sierra's, sorry.

I share your distrust of click pens.

Part of the problem comes down to how the mechanism works.

most of the cheaper click pens use the teeth on the top of the refull and the refill rotates in operation.

This means they can be hit and miss.
There can be problems with:
the matching of the refill to the mechanism
the matching of where the spring seats in the nib
and how the tip of the refill comes thru the spring and the opening in the nib.

The best I have seen so far in the mechanism in the Dayacom Sierea.....it does not depend on the top of the refill and the refill does not rotate, so several of the issues go away and they runn a lot smoother.

I also share your thaughts about the limitation of the Sirera.....the blank is small in comparison to the length of the pen and the tubes are fat for the OD of the pen, this means the material on the tubes is thin..result the more translucent acrillics don't have enough thickness too look good.


I'm not sure what else has this mec in it....BUT look for a mec where the refill does not rotate.
