I have the Irwin vice already, and would like more accuracy when doing bottle stoppers/recipe card holders.I was wondering if these work good?

Thanks for any thoughts,
Steve

Thanks Billy, after reading that I think I'll order a pair. The homemade setup I made just isn't accurate enough and this looks like an economical solution.

There was an article by Paul Allen Smith (?) That detailed how to make a set of drilling jaws from a short section of aluminum angle. The attachment mounts with rare earth magnets and attaches to your standard 4 jaw chuck. Darn! i couldn't find it. Sorry.

Hmmm Looks like PSI is down this morning.

randyrls,

Here it is: Auxiliary Pen Blank Jaws

I only knew where to find it because it is in my favorites list and the Aluminum angle is on the workbench in my garage just waiting for a few spare moments one evening this week.

I have these. I don't think you can use them for Bottle Stoppers because they will greatly close the size of your jaws down to limit you to maybe a 1" blank in there.

Maybe not what you are looking for but I posted this a while back on how I make my stoppers and square the blank to the hole so it will set flush with the stopper.

I did change one thing. I now top the stopper while still on the chuck that way if I have to add some CA to reinforce I can tap again and my blank will still be square. I had an issue where the CA filled the original threads and when I re-tapped it was off. This step fixed that.

Thanks for all the tips!

And thanks Chris for your demo, that looks like the perfect way to get the alignment right.

I ordered them today, but now I'm wishing that I would have waited for more feedback, since the bottle stopper alignment problem is my main goal to fix.

Oh well, they will be used for the occasional blank drilling, and it's nice that they hold a brass tube so it's not money wasted. What I need is a 4 jaw chuck.I have put that off for years now, since they cost so much.I have always been real close to giving it all up,thus not wanting to spend even more. It's about the only thing I have not bought!

I wish his hobby/addiction was not so expensive. At least I have something to show for it.

Thanks again,
Steve
