I always considered myself the Cork Pen King. I even shot down a few others who tried it and really did quite well.

Well guess what? A client gave me an important cork to make into a pen and I screwed it up Royally. It was terrible in proportions, finish and dimensions.

So to those who I criticised by saying "you need to work on the..."

I apologize !!! I had it coming. :thunder:

Hey buddy! We all make mistakes. It takes a big man to admit it.You made enough of really super nice ones to let everyone know you are still the master at it..

Hi John,
when you are as good at anything as you are at the cork pen thing, the natural action is
to protect your "turf" your comments regardless of motivation do push people forward
towards making a better pen.
Give yourself a break and post more pictures,I need something to copy from!

Sounds like you had a perfectly normal thing happen. You have no clue how frustrated I get when I wreck a Slimline. Although that's a self-compounding issue. If you wreck a Slimline you probably deserved whatever just happened. It's good of you to take ownership of it, though. Classy!

Thank you. I am still humbled.

No picture, guess it didn't happen. Welcom to the club. Crow tast like c**p even when marinated

Too embarrassed to show, but as I get up nerve and replace the cork by buying a new bottle of wine and have a new product: I will show the two, side by side.
Thank you for your comments.

I was always taught by my Dad, when you think you are better then anyone else at something, thats about the time something will happen and take you down a few notches..

There's always going to be someone that is just a little better no matter how good you get, and only the best get to that level because they teach others to be better then they are.

Good to be able to admit it that shows your Human, there are some that wouldn't do that.

Even the best aren't perfect. Your still an inspiration on the cork motiff and offer construcctive critiques on those of us still experimenting.

One of the problems of being the best and saying you are the best....is that it is often mistaken for idle boasting rather than an honest assessment of your abilities. But even the best can screw up on occasion. Secretariat did lose some races - he is still considered to be one of the top two race horses in history, and the best by some folks.

Yuppers, and I also had another "chip" knocked off my shoulder. This has thrown me into a craftsman funk for a while. I made a wedding pen with piano key inlay along with piano key segmented into the bottom portion. It was engraved with the name "AT LAST" and the date of the wedding along with their names. I have sixty dollars invested in parts. The engraver forgot the white back ground that would make the names show well in the black wood. As I waited, they put the powder into the characters and then rubbed back and forth causing a dull finish. I, prematurely, took it to the groom who rejected the pen.
The price was three hundred dollars. I have refinished the bottom to the best of my ability and think it looks as good as it can. BUT, the rejection hit me hard. Probably because I knew better than to deliver a less than perfect product.
Humbled again. I need to start at the beginning as a plebe.I had it coming, AGAIN. !!!

The good thing is that when I fall, I fall hard. When things are good, they are really good.
