Me and a friend where talking about NASCAR banning cars with fins on them when Petty drove the Barracuda. How many of you had one of these?

My dad had a 70 Road Runner Super bird with the 440 6 pack when i was a kid. Sold when I was 13 and bought a 55 chevy. Sold it when I was 16 so i wouldn't snnek and drive it. Bought me a ragged old 68 ford truck..Sure do miss that truck

I had a '72 Hurst Olds with the build slip under the back seat from Hurst. Was one of the parade cars (not the "Official" pace car ) at Indy.

I bought a 72 Plymouth Gold Duster 340 while stationed at Fort Hood in 72.I drove the s**t out of that car!

It wasn't a muscle car, but I had a '57 Fairlane Ford with a 292 and three stromberg 97's sitting on top. New Mexico State Highway Patrol ask how fast I was going.
"Wide open as a prayer book sir" For that I got a card board cookie saying I was doing 105. Most fun car was a little '64 Falcon Sprint. Oh what fun for a sneaky old man to dust a kid driving his camero. Good times, great memories.

I always liked the Superbird, even though i'm not a dodge fan. I've had a few muscle cars. 67 chevelle ss with a 576 big block, 4 speed, and a 9 inch that had been narrowed. Got about 4 miles to the gallon. 65 corvette convertible 427 and a 4 speed. That was my favorite of all. 69 camaro, 55 chevy, and a 31 ford model A Rat Rod.

Had a 55 Chevy built all the way, got stolen one night. Replaced it with a 69 Z28 Camaro. I'd still have that if a drunk hadn't taken the front end off of it one night.

Cool! I had a 59 Fairlane with a 292, 302 heads with a Holley 500cfm on it. Heavy beast but it would fly!

Is that referring to the Camshaft? I don't recall 576 as an engine size (409 cid was the biggest chevy engine in "61 to '65 except for one year when they had a 427 cid) and but I seem to recall that number associated with something.

edit: misread the year 67 chevy biggest engine was the 396 cid - had one in an impala - 350 hp 4bbl Holly carb. I had an automatic - but that car could get out of its own way.

Smitty, right there with you; first car was a '67 Impala, but only a 283 w/ a 2 speed power glide. Bought in '78 with only 45k miles! Man, I loved that car! Could carry 8 really good friends....or just 2 on prom night! Backeat had more room than my F150 crew cab! Ah, the good ol' days! Current play car is a '65 Cobra replica, a blast but no back seat! Which would be for the kids these days :-)

My first car was a 57 Chevy Bel Aire 2 door hardtop with a 283, a 4bbl carb, dual exhausts...It was pretty quick off the dime yet in 61 when I got it.

I guess that's why i'm a crazy gearhead. It's not stock. The basics of it is

Dart 502 block with 4 bolt splayed caps, 4.46 inch bore and 6.595 inch rods. 12.5/1 domed pistons, with PBM profiler heads that have been decked .040. Produced around 850 hp.

Mine was a 62 Impala Super Sport, that was the first year of the SS, had a 409 with 3 deuces with progressive linkage and a 3/4 race cam, a heavy car but when you nailed it and the other 2 carbs came in that baby would fly!!!

At the Chevron station gas was 23.9 a gallon and at the Bay staion down the street it was 18.9 a gallon, I could fill the 20 gallon tank in my SS, get a pack of smokes and a 6 pak of beer and get change out of that $5 bill, yea, I'm showing my age.

64 Buick Wildcat 465

It as a pontoon boat with wheels. Got it in 95 my senior year of high school for $500. It was an old fellas mothers car. Only had 23k miles original on it.

Full coverage insurance was only $100 more per year and that year we had. Bad hail storm. State Farm wrote me a check for nearly $3k for damages.

Man I loved that car.

I wouldn't be familiar with the aftermarket stuff or even much of the stock. In 1969 I started driving a pick up truck and we started having kids. I didn't pay much attention to hot cars after that.

My very first car was a '59 Chevy Impala... the one with the flared nostril look on the front and the big flat wide fins on the back... I got off a bus in Chandler Arizona to visit my mom, she liked the car's looks, so I bought it and drove it the rest of the way to California where I was stationed at Treasure Island... It had a 348 engine, a Herscht conversion from automatic to 3 speed on the floor, second gear was almost beyond my reach, usually had to lean forward just a touch to pull it into 3rd... not a muscle car for sure, it was really slow off the line and I'll bet I rolled back 5 feet every time I tried to start from a stop on those San Francisco hills.... it had an Okie rake on the tail end and at 85+ the rear end would start to lift from those fins... since I was the only single guy on the ship in my division with a car, it made me a very popular guy on the ship....
My second car, was a muscle car... a 1964 Corvette hard top convertible... it was a pain to take the top off since I had to really plan where to leave the top, but loved that one... it sported a 327 engine with a Holly AFB 4 barrel carb and 3/4 race cam... the engine wouldn't idle smoothly at all, kinda loped at idle... I tried it out on the 405 out of Los Angeles towards Huntington Beach when I first got it... I reached 125 on the speedometer, the front end was rising, I was still accelerating and had accelerator left before I chickened out and shut it back down... it could pump gas faster than a gas pump... it got stolen one night when I was at work and thieves cleaned out the parking lot... don't know how many 'vettes they took that night, but usually there was 3-6 in the lot where I parked... 2 weeks after mine was taken, a garage in SF was busted that had 30 in various stages of being dismantled.
I replaced it with a '65 with a stock 327 and a rag top... traded that when I got married the first time... should have kept the car, it would have lasted longer than the marriage.
