A wedding pen has been contracted for a lady who plays and tunes pianos. I have that pen designed but in the conversation found that she is a flutist.

Is it possible to make a flute looking pen out of aluminum? How do I make keys or simulated keys?? I can have an engraver make them but they will not make a visual appearance. Any ideas will be welcomed.

I have seen a picture of one and it even had the keys on it. But for the life of me I can't remember where I saw it at.

Skiprat made one for me. It didn't use keys, rather it used holes.
I don't think one with keys would work.. it is intricate enough on
a full sized flute, let alone one that is pen sized!

It could be done with a 4 axis mill, and a decent 3D cad program. I have Rhino 3D but only a 3 axis mill. I think Mike Redburn has everything you would need.

Hi John! Do you know what kind she plays?

Not sure that this will help, but here is the thread for the Ressikan flute pen that I commissioned from Skiprat. In real life I believe its similar to a recorder or Irish tin whistle type of flute.

From what I understand, the toughest part on this pen was the mouth piece. But with a little artistic license, you could probably get around that.
If closeups would help any, just shoot me a PM

Yes. you are on the right track. The intricacy of the keys and external piping would be Skiprats area of expertise, not mine.

Way over my head and equipment, my friend. Thank you for offering:frown: thought.

No, but I will find out. Those pictures of the flute are GREAT. Those might work for me and be within my abilities.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU , THANK YOU.

These two people are to be married on 8-19-12 and this is going to be a gift from him to her. They are having " At Last " be Etta James engraved on the body of the flute, with their wedding date.
