It is Seamus.......

I used to spend a lot of time across the boarder when I lived in Michigan and Canada day is the same day as my birthday.

Happy Canada day my frozen freinds!

Canada

can you give a comparison of that to any of the US holidays? Is that your indepence day "so to speak"? Forgive my ignorance

It is the birth of Canada July 1st 1867 when Canada became independent from Britain, so yes it is our independence day.

Lin.

It's the anniversary of the British North America Act, which gave Canada it's own formal structure (parliament, courts, etc) somewhat independant from that of Great Britain. Prior to that, Canada was a formal Colony - the BNA act gave Canada its own say in affairs.

So long story short, it's just like July 4th, but Canadian and earlier!

Love being schooled, great info on our neighbor. Happy Birthday. Family is considering a Christmas trip up there in the next year or so.

It's cold in the winter up here, compared to Texas! December's still pretty mild - but don't be planning a February trip!

What part of the country were you thinking of visiting?

OOOPs .... July 4th 1776 is the date we commorate....I think that was somewhat before July 1st 1867.

I will concede that July 1st comes before July 4th in our annual calendar...at least it did last year and this year and there is a strong liklihood that if the planet survives December 12th(?) 2012 it will next year.

No argument there - just saying that Canada day is celebrated a few days before Independence Day
