I finally decided to replace my 60 year old garage. I decided to make a time-lapse video of the construction, and getting that to work has been lots of fun. Here's the demolition, done yesterday.

The old building was 20x20, the new one will be 22x30. It should be completed in about 3 weeks.

I should clarify. I wasn't on the crew. That was a demolition sub-contractor working for my garage contractor. I probably would have rented a backhoe and smashed it to bits. This was a far better method. Done in 4 hours.

Now if you can just build your new one that fast

haha, awesome. reminded me of those time lapse videos you see on the discovery channel where the ants build an ant hill in a day.

that's what I would have done - and had it complete in an hour.

Let's see, they removed all the pieces for salvage.

So, did they pay you several hundred dollars for the privilege???:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Not much high value stuff in there. I know they recycle the siding.

I don't know what their arrangement was with the builder. I just hope they give the termites a good home - somewhere else!
 
So when will you be selling the salvaged wood pen blanks from your garage?

It could be the official IAP wooden pen material.

I never thought about that! Probably incredible demand for soft pine pen blanks. Another business opportunity missed!
 
Everything seemed to be taken down so neatly and carefully I figured they didn't split a board or lose a nail so it could be used in the new one!!!!!! OH Well I guess not thanks for showing Jeff. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the new one. Richb

I'm with you if it had been me I'd done something destructive also, I'd be looking for a monster truck to rent for an hour or so. :biggrin: Sure would be fun.....:wink:
 
So far it has taken me three years to build mine and I did not have to demolish anything. I like your way better. I make a bigger mess brushing my teeth than they did taking down a building. Great video.

I was going to ask where did you find a crew of Mexicans to take down the garage in Ohio.... I know.... I'm politically incorrect.:redface:.. thats what the crew looked like that put the bricks around my house in Houston in 1981 when I bought my first house in Texas.... The bricked from the ground up to the roof line on four sides of my house in one day.:eek:... must have looked just like your take down crew.... :biggrin:

Hey, I meant no disrespect..:cool:. matter of fact, I intended it to be a complement to the Mexican people... I was flabbergasted in how fast they put the brick around my house,:eek: and how well it was done... I lived there 11 years and never saw a fault in the brick work.

The last company I worked for in Houston before retirement was an export packing company.... our yard crew was about 80-100 and all but two or three were Latino.... one day a customer was walking about with the boss/owner and watching the crew work... it was about 98 in the shade and our back yard is approximately 3 acres of concrete, most of it 10-12 inches thick... it was HOT.... the customer commented to the boss..."your people don't move very fast do they?".... the boss replied... "No, not real fast, but they'll move like that for 18 hours a day"..... we got the contract.
