Thanks, RMOrud!

Just a general idea about what sort of events/activities are taking place would be stellar, if you're in the area!

Fargo's a neat town - we love going to Johnny Corino's for lunch, wander around Sheel's and it's not a complete trip without grabbing some Lingonberry preserves from Stabo! :) (not a lot goes on in our neck of the woods when Fargo's a big city!)

Andrew,

I'm originally from Fargo but I moved to the Denver area in '99. I thought I would know where to look to find some info on this but I couldn't find anything regarding activities for this festival, only listings indicating the date. Maybe you could email the Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau (info@fargomoorhead.org). They might have some info but if the festival organizers haven't given them any details then they probably won't be able to help.

I don't know if you have checked out the replica Viking ship at the Hjemkomst Center when you've been in the area but it's a pretty interesting story. They actually sailed it to Norway. Unfortunately the man who had the dream and started building it passed away before he could see this happen.

Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County

There is also a replica stave church near the Hjemkomst Center.

Anyone here from the Fargo Moorhead area?

There's a Scandinavian festival coming up at the Hejemkomst viking ship...looking for some details (the website is rather sparse)...

Andrew:

I'm not from your area, and I've only been to Fargo, twice. I kept asking the airport people " Is there a city close to here?"(they DIDN'T think that was funny, But I had to travel nearly 25 miles to rent a car). Beautiful area, that I some day hope to spend a little time visiting. But, not very dilligent in the PR department.

On the other hand, one of our better shows is in GAY, GA. Population about 600. Even as a Georgia Resident, I had to look up directions to this TINY, TINY hamlet. This show draws over 200,000 and 20 to 30 miles BEFORE you get to the venue ( there's only 2 major roads going there) you'll see "yard sales", mini festivals, etc, popping up on Wednesday BEFORE the Saturday and Sunday Festival. They do this "fair' twice per year and it is a focus of everyone in this area. There is a two year waiting list for vendors.

As close as you are to that area, There HAS to be a Fargo Artists Guild, etc. Find that group! They'll give the "low down" on the show. As small as Gay GA is, if you google it, you find thousands of entries for the "Cotton Pickin' Fair" and tourism for a town of 600! If you can't find information CLOSE to the show, it likely means tht it's a bust.

I'm a member of EVERY "show" publication that I can find, North, South, East, West, Canada and the Southern "Atlantic" islands. I can't find SQUAT about the Fargo show. The GOOD news is that they'll likely accept you and the fees will be low.

Respectfully submitted.

25 miles from the airport to rent a car? How many years ago was that? I have been back several times since I moved away in '99 and I always rent a car at the airport.

A while ago.... and now I know why that particular rental agent would "pick you up".

I WASN'T trying to be offensive. Fargo IS a beautiful place when the snow goes away. I sometimes think that Fargo and the surrounding businesses DON'T promote. In today's world, that is paramount!

I'm not trying to derail Andrew's thead and I'M NOT dissing Fargo (which I actually LIKE very much).

My entire point was that if he can't find demographics and advertising in his location, AND that it is VIRTUALLY NON-EXSISTANT ON THE WEB (considering all of the free and nearly free advertising available to art venues), that I wouldn't pay very much to attend this show

The show promoters that work very hard to produce quality events USUALLY EXPLOIT the free and nearly free virtual advertising venues...... I couldn't find this event with map, compass, GPS and a spouse craving funnel cakes.
