So whose packing up the family and hitting the open road with the wife and kids this summer? Was your dad king of the KOA? Got any plans for family fun and adventure?

We just got back from a two-week road trip. We went early because it is just my wife and I, so we could go now and avoid the rush. We made it from Idaho to Virginia and back again.

Scott.

We skip the hot summers in Texas and go to the mountains in New Mexico. We were already there for 10 days this month to open up our house there, came home to close up this house and will be back in Ruidoso about the first of June. Roughing it a locked dead bolt to keep out the bears.

Occasional trips to southern Colorado to escape the heat, fly fish (hopefully) and spend time with my parents. If I don't get above tree line at least once a year I tend to get very grumpy.

We were supposed to leave tomorrow but family friends have to make an emergency stop here. So we will leave Friday I guess and come home Tuesday.

Going to get out of the heat (108) for the last 5 days (in Phoenix) and go up north to Alpine where still have our home where we raised all the kids at 8,200' in elevation where it will be about 75 daytime and 50 night time, unfortuately with the store to run we will have to come back Tuesday, wish we could stay all summer out of the heat !!

Scott; One of the best weeks of my life was driving out to California with my girl and everything we owned in a jeep towin a smaller jeep. We live in an amazingly diverse country and driving it with your sweet heart is the best way to see it. I had always herd the desert was beautiful.......I had no idea!

Dogcatcher, Haynie and Shadetree.....some common threads there guys out of the heat and into the mountains! I too will be avoiding the traffic and heat. Dogcatcher; no dead bolt on a wall tent, bears are a bit pale too, but my son and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for them. Haynie; as you may have guessed I need time above treeline to keep my sanity too. I'll get mine this fall hunting Mountain goat and Dall sheep. VERY difficult explaining the experiance of living in high country! Shadetree; sounds like a slice of paradise! Gunther and I will have a company trading post but not a real store to run to...........it will be a days journey from camp by freighter canoe

So I guess I should share what I will be doing. My son Gunther and I are travelling to Nuqisut to spend a month hunting, fishing and gathering ivory and antler on the coast of the arctic ocean. IF we can get it all organized and the boat repairs done on time that is. The trip will be about 840 miles in the truck and another 100 or so in the freighter canoe, one way! We will use Nuiqsut as our resupply/communication center. Nuiqsut is a native village of about 150 souls, our good freind Isaac and his family live there. Gunther and I will split our time living on the coast itself and up the Colville river some 60-70 miles up stream from the village. Gunther is 5, momma is jealous as hell! She has to stay home and work.

We are shooting for a July2 departure.

We made a Wally World type trip when I was about 10. We were driving our 1952 DeSoto with my parents, brother, sister, and grandmother. We were also pulling an open trailer for all the luggage. We camped at the Grand Canyon Saturday night. Sunday morning we were driving from the South Rim to Williams, AZ. Driving along at about 65 mph there was a sudden very load bang and 2 holes appeared in the hood. One of the bladesom the fan had broken off ripping open the radiator and nearly coming through the hood. My mother who has never been real calm under pressure, started yelling at my dad saying, "Well, Bill, what are we going to do? What are we going to do, huh? What now?!" My father sat quietly for a minute and calmly said, "Well, let's have lunch." We had to be towed 85 miles and finally got the car fixed late that night and were off the next morning for Wally World! For some reason neither of my parents thought Vacation was a very funny movie. Me...I want a Family Truckster!

ROTFLMAO!!!!! Thanks Tomas! That was awesome.....and I think we went to Kentucky with you one summer.

We caravanned down form Michigan with two other families. On the way down we got a trailer stuck in a tunnel because the driver had no idea how tall his trailer was. My dads best freind set his conversion van on fire tryin to cook on a Coleman stove in it. He and his girl wanted smores but didn't want to get dressed.......nothin quiet like the sight of a screaming naked man running in circles with a Coleman stove fully engulfed in flames in his arms! And I managed to jam my little brother into a fox hole.......thanks to the fireman of the great state of Kentucky for gettin him back out!

We loved the vacation movies!!!! It was like watching old home movies!

The economy has not been good to us so we will be taking a short over night road trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine TX. We cant afford a long trip but 2 days at this place is about all the kids can handle anyways.
