Interesting history of the Wasp... the WWII vessel that was sunk by the Japanese was sunk 4 years before she was built??

I like reading the history of some of our ships... my ship from the way back days of my navy service also had an interesting history... she has long since been decommissioned and dismantled.

I can't be in NOLA, but would sure like to be there to visit when you pull in.

Hmmmmm

The WW II Wasp sunk by the Japanese was CV 7 built in 1936 or so and sunk in 1942. The Wasp CV 18 was commissioned in 1943 (she was already under construction and her name was changed to honor the ship that had been sunk) decommissioned after the war and recommissioned as CVA 18 in the 1950s. She later became an anti-Submarine carrier. One of my sister-in-laws brothers served on her for several years in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

This offer is still open to anyone who would like to come an get a "real" tour. We leave the 23rd and will head to Port Everglades. I will send out an invite to everyone once the dates are closer (25-30April).
Chuck, good catch. I just did a quick google search and posted the link. Smitty, your knowledge of naval history always amazes me. Fred, you are very welcome Sir.
