I had anti acid today right after a visit to El Fenix for Mexican food. Boy does it bring a great feeling R-E-L-I-E-F!

Than whom?

Just exactly who or what are you older than? Or did you mean your older than you were yesterday? My military service dates to Korean era yours is at least a decade later.

Does that mean you were in the army when you were 13? The Korean war was from 1950 to 1953... I'm only a few years younger and was still in nickers when that conflict started.

Don't have much problem with spicy food... biggest problems I have is with the spices in Italian food and buttered toast. I do like my spicy food.

I was never in the Army, thank you. I said Korean ERA not Korean War. The Korean War Service (for official purposes) ended in January 1955. I went in the Navy in September of 1955 which is still considered Korean ERA- I was 17.
I was around for the Suez Chrisis when we forced France, GB and Israel to give the Suez Canal back to Egypt - when we landed troops in Lebanon - the Hungarian Uprising called for full alert of all armed forces but we never did anything, and all those other little things that kept cropping up in "peace time".

Heck most of the Vietnam Vets are still young guys - I have a ships reunion coming up next month and will be graced by the presence of a few (not many left) wwii guys. They are getting up there. They had to be 18 (17 for Navy and USMC) at least 67 years ago.

Smitty, I graduated from high school the year you entered the Navy and joined the Air Force in 1957 and stayed for 8 years. One of the best things I have done in my life.

Personally I think when I enlisted in the Navy was one of the times God intervened in my life - would trade that for anything. Took about 3 seconds for me to decide to forgo college and join the navy. 2nd best decision I ever made in my life (first was marrying my wife...which wouldn't have happened if I had not joined the Navy).

HEY!!!!! Who you calling old?

Just cause I can remember drinking out of the hose when I was a kid.

And...... And........

Well you know all that other old stuff.

Smitty,.
My most humble apologies for implying were a ground pounder,,,, I should have remembered you are a navy guy... you corrected my ship number for me... I did 4 years in the navy too, but waited until I was 19 to go in... I separated 8 days after Vietnam was declared an official police action in 1964... I'm a Vietnam war veteran by grace of 8 days... born almost 3 months before Pearl Harbor ... my ship went to Nam in October after I left in August, although I've never understood what they needed a radar picket ship for in Vietnam... we worked as part of the air early warning and once on picket station answered to the airforce...

I was on a DDR - we did out picket duty with Carrier Task Forces. We also did a fair amount of AntiSubmarie Warfare - the Russians had pretty decent (but a bit noisey) submarine forces. I also went through a collision at sea when an MSTS ship left over from WWII hit us near our after Gun Turrett cut about half way through - luckily we lost only one crewman.

I think I do

My most humble apologies for implying were a ground pounder,,,,

Without slinging my entire repertoire of Navy insults, what exactly is your problem with the US Army?
Personally I don't have any...3 of my 4 brothers and 1 brother-in-law served in the US Army - 1 brother and I served in the US Navy. One brother-in-law served in the Navy and the Air Force. My Eldest son served in the US Coast Guard. One of my Nephews served in the Navy and one in the Green Berets (army). I have a great deal of respect for all service types including gravel agitators.

I remember clearly being at school during WW2, National Service in the Army in the 50,s then several years CMF (Citizen Military Forces). No regrets for Military Life, married out of National Service 57 yrs ago. Part of my family arrived, settled in America in the 1700,s and 1800,s, here in Australia in the first half of 1800,s all free settlers and pioneers.

Now I believe these people contributed, I have the proof.

In the IAP we all have an oportunity to contribute in our own way in the best traditions of our forefathers the word International comes to mind in the IAP.

Kind regards to all of us who suffer acid stomach,s etc, select our own solution to everything and respect each other.

Kind regards Peter.

Hey Chuck Key,
No disparagement to any service meant... just poking at Smitty... both of my sons were Army and proud of both of them... Elder son was at Barstow and trained or helped with the training of the troops that were in Desert Storm... his biggest disappointment was that he didn't get to go too... Younger son, the tall, blond, blue eyed one was trained as a Korean Linguist and sent to Korea where his C.O. put him on a desk in front of a computer to handled intelligence things, so he only used his Korean language training to order dinner... after he rotated back to stateside, he was sent to Ft. Lewis and put in building maintenance... no Korean there either...
Smitty and I were both in the era of the draft... I don't know about Smitty, but I knew that I would be drafted as about 90% of the men in my hometown were and I preferred to choose my own service... I looked at both the Marines and the Navy.... the navy recruiter showed up first... he knocked on my front door and recruited me right out of my living room. Never regretted my decision and considered making a career, but in the end wanted to go to school and took early out to do that.... only took me two years after I got out to actually get into school.
I'm proud of the young men and women that are our armed forces today and think we don't do enough for them.
