In several recent threads, discussions were around the use of credit card readers at shows and of course the focus was on the hardware available for the card readers to work on; iphones, ipads, droid phones and droid tablets.

I got an email from Best Buy saying they now have the NEW ipads in stock in limited quantities and the new 16gb wifi enabled ipad is priced at $500.

There were several members absolutely certain that this would drastically drive down the price of the current ipad models. Well I certainly hope so and would love to see the prices on current models tumble down a little which would also lower the prices of the competing droid tablets.

Perhaps within a few months, one might pick up a nice tablet at a decent price!

The same IPad 2 dropped $100 across the board. It is still the same machine it was before the intro of IPad 3.

That's about a 20 percent reduction on day one.

It is available today from Apple Stores and at Verizon and AT&T stores here, starting at $399 for 16GB WIFI.

Well, that's nice, I haven't been looking around yet but am wondering if the droid tablets will take a cut as well since they were always priced about $100 under the ipad!

I saw either the same or a similar review on the EEE Transformer. I was thinking about grabbing an iPad 2, but after reading that, I may wait and see if that price comes down a little and if the Square Register becomes available for the Android pads (which I am quite certain it will)

Actually....the new EEE Transformer Prime, is the one to get.

The Asus and IPad 2 are exactly the ones in my mix, too.

I used to build clone PCs and I used the Asus motherboards. They were always a step above the other equipment.
 
With the IPad 2 out there as a "proven" platform for under $400 and a gazillion apps available, I can't see any way for the droid machines to maintain their current price structure.

The "it's just as good as an IPad" argument doesn't hold water when the IPad costs less.
 
I just bought an Asus transformer and if you aren't computer savy be prepared the manual is a couple of small folded pages with a picture of the tablet and what is labeled and where.
I love it so far but there are no real good books on the tablet as to how to's. Even the apps leave a lot to be desired in there use info.
It should be like a car don't need to know how the trans or electrical fuel system works to drive the car :wink: But that's a different thread.
They haven't got all the bugs fixed yet to roll out the updates to ICS OS for the Transformer. I got the docking keypad to and it is a almost must have way longer battery life claims a total of 16 hours. I now in two days of use sitting doctors offices waiting for my parents appointments it hasn't dropped much!

If you think you will need more than 16 gb memory on your iPad you will need to buy a used iPad 2 or the New iPad.

My son just showed me the New iPad he got today. It is totally awesome. He got the Verizon LTE model and with only three bars showing got 16.9 mb download speed. Impressed me.

I'm leaning towards the iPad for that very reason. The apps are there and the price is right. I am going to mainly be using it for business purposes.
 
The ONLY issue keeping me for converting all of our electronics (well, except maybe one desktop) to Apple products is THAT ONE TIME A YEAR, that I want to look at something that requires Adobe (Macromedia) Flash.

A generation ago, Apple products didn't do so well with CAD/cam products, either. Today they stand head and shoulders above the others. I'm one "flash" away from adios Microsift and the dreaded blue screens.

I'm not absolutely certain but there is probably a download for Apple that will read the program. Besides Apple runs windows so it should run the Adobe too.

Not sure why you think the iMacs and MacBooks don't use Flash. It is only the iPad that doesn't.

I know that the Macs use flash. The problem that I have is when I generally need flash is when I'm on the road and need to look at something someone sent.

Now, when we travel, we lug 2 smart phones, a tablet and at least one laptop. I'd really like to cut down on the "suitcases" to 2 phones and 2 tablets. Without flash, that kinda means 2 iPhones (neither the wife nor I are willing to move back to droid), one IPad and one droid tablet--- or give up flash and go with 2 IPads.

Thus the decision... The IPad 2 or the Asus EEE. ITt SURE IS NICE to travel with devices that all use the same charging equipment!!!!! Is it nice enough to give up flash??? I could care LESS about Jon Stewart or even Comedy Central (which are flash). That may NOT BE the opinion of the entire entourage.

Hi Andy!

You seem really torn about this Flash problem. Let me help! I downloaded an app called Skyfire onto my iPad. It's a browser that runs Flash. So now on those rare occasions that you need Flash, open Skyfire, navigate to the page you need, and watch away!

I still love my iPad! It's one of the original iPads, and it is still a phenomenal device! My Wife and I start our day with a cup of coffee and our iPads. We play games with each other on them (try Ticket To Ride). Check email, surf the web, read books, stream Netflix or watch movies from the iPads memory, and it is a great way to show pictures to others. It's funny, but one thing we like to do is check IMDB. If we're watching some TV or a movie, and some actor looks familiar, we just grab the iPad and look them up - it takes about 30 seconds from when I think about it to reading about them and all the shows they have been in.

My wife and I have great Android phones (HTC Sensation) because T Mobile still doesn't do iPhones, and we love our phones, but I still haven't seen anything on Android that is better than on the iPad.

In the very near future the mobile flash issue will be moot. Adobe has discontinued flag on all mobile OS's. Flash 11, is the final Flash for mobile devices. It'll most likely "break" with the first update to ICS.
 
Yesterday when I saw the Ipad 2 drop 100 bucks I went ahead and got one, I have never questioned the quality of apple but just always felt they were a little over priced so for $100 off it was kinda hard to pass up. I have not touched or used an apple product in probably 30 years I don't even have a smart phone let alone an Iphone, My wife and daughter do have tablets one has the asus and the other the acer (not sure on models but they were the high end ones comparable to the ipad) Now all i can say after getting the ipad and playing with it for a little while now is WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG!!!! I'm loving this thing now i wont to get a new laptop and an I phone from apple LOL seriously I'm no computer nerd but so far I have been very impressed with the ipad, Now i just need to get back to finding apps for it.
 
Is it true that if you find an Apple i-pad at one store like Best Buy that it will be the same price as any other store?

I can't believe they can control the sale price that well but if true, it can save lots of shopping around!
 
I caught a good deal on reconditioned iPad directly from Apple. Can save some good bucks that way. I buy reconditioned iPhones almost exclusively for our staff at work. Most times you cannot tell they are not new.
