My new Shop Fox pressure pot will arrive today, and now I need an air compressor. The pot is rated for 80psi, which should be fine I think.

Would this work? Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

I've looked at research materials I could find and was given, but with approximately zero prior working knowledge of this stuff, it's sort of a foreign language. From what I can tell, I don't need anything very fancy though. I don't really need it to do anything else. Maybe blow the sticky resin dust off my bandsaw on occasion.

Yes it should be sufficient. As a former sears tool salesman know this. The evolve line is cheaper for a reason. It is not heavy duty. They will offer you a three year extended warranty at about 10 or 12 bucks extra. I hated selling the ew on a lot of things but on these probably a good idea. If it breaks in that three years and doesnt show signs of abuse bring it in along with receipt and contract and use to replace on tge spot. That may have changed in the past two yeara tho.... Sold a lot of them and the failure rate was probably no higher than anything else

If you bought that pot off Amazon and are going off their description of 80psi, then you'll will quickly find it is rated at 45psi not 80.

Just a heads up.

Not to worry it's still enough pressure for casting.

Yep, says 80 on the box, 45 on the tank:confused:

Anyway, it looks OK. I do have a couple questions - I assume I need to cap the end of the regulator opposite the air in connector, right?

Also, the fluid tube is in the way. Is that removable? It doesn't appear to be threaded in. I hope it is though, or it's a dud. I guess I could cut it off after a pressure test to make sure it works. I'll need to cap that as well.

I think everything's 1/4", so I can pick up a couple caps and be ready to roll hopefully:biggrin:

Check the library for the vac/pressure pot tutorial, should answer most of your questions and has photo's.

Yes you have to plug the straight through side of the regulator. Also the pickup tube and the connector on the top are both threaded into that sleave that is welded in the lid, and they used red loctite you can unscrew them but it is a real B. It might come out easer if you heat it up a little. I would also suggest you put valves on the thing other wise how you going to hold the pressure in and let it out when you are done.

Like said above look at the docs in the library fo examples.
